Headliner Rattle--HAVE searched, looked thru TSB's, nothin.
I've noticed a creaking noise coming from my sunroof/headliner area. I'm not at 30,000 miles, and now know what everyone's been posting about. It IS irritating!
My car creaks from the headliner on turns, going over bumps, etc.
After poking around in my car tonight, I've isolated the creaking too the headliner where it meets the frame of the (front, operable) sunroof.
Where the top part of the headliner ends and the metal begins, there is a metal or hard plastic strip glued to the back of the headliner fabric, that rubs against the metal frame of the sunroof.
Why this piece doesn't have some sort of rubber grommet to keep it from creaking, I don't know.
I'm taking it to the dealership again at some point, maybe before my next oil change. I'm just curious to know if anyone else has found this as the source of their 'sunroof creaking,' since I haven't seen it in a post.
Also, this 'creak' affects the whole front headliner. If I press up on the sun visors, or even let them snap closed, they make the creak.

Last weekend i got tired of all the rattles and what not, so i dropped the headliner over the weekend (completely removed from vehicle) and ANYTHING that moved i doused with spray foam after a while i put the headliner back up and have not had a single noise since! Best afternoon project ever.
Should give it a shot, the removal is pretty straight-forward

I took my car into the dealership a week and a half ago for rattles. They kept the car overnight and completely tore the headliner out, put foam tape around EVERYTHING, and put it back together. No more rattles. I just rolled over 33,000 so you should be fine.
I had the same problem with my headliner. The dealership kept my car for 2 weeks, and sent it to a bodyshop where they determined the rattles were coming from weak roof welds above the sunroof. My car still rattles, but not NEARLY AS BAD...pm me for pics
I know what you are talking about. It was weird. From sitting up front it sounded like the hatch. But when i sat in the back while someone drove it sounded like it was coming from the front. I should of had them look at it while it got inspected today.
Are there instructions for the removal of the headliner. I just turned 22k and I now have the infamous (what was once thought of as hatch rattle) rattle coming from some where in my car. It only makes the noise when I go over bumps but it is rather annoying. I had thought I might have escaped it but, um not so much.
Thanks!
Thanks!
Update:
I took the car into the dealer. I'm now at 26,000 miles. Turns out, the foam insulation under the headliner had been coming loose, they said there was something wrong with the foam, and it had gotten hot enough inside the car to loosen it. So, the wiring harness for both the lights were loose, and the headliner itself was moving all over the place.
Dealership took the entire headliner down, resprayed or re-attached the foam, and put the headliner back up.
I went back with Starbucks cards to hand out because my dealership does some good work. They removed and replaced it perfectly; you can't tell it's been done. There were a few fingerprint smudges on the headliner that I wiped off with some carpet cleaner, but that's it.
They said this kind of repair should be covered with or without the extended warranty I have. So I would take it in before trying it myself.
