Sal Zaino's not so genius product naming duped you. Z5 is a not a polish in the traditional sense, in that it contains NO abrasives. It will not remove any scratches or swirls in your paint. It is meant to hide the swirls and scratches and leave protection behind. It is really just a swirl hiding sealant, and it doesn't even do a very good job of hiding the swirls. If you want to remove the defects in your paint, look into a Porter Cable 7424/Meguiars G100 and abrasive polishes from companies like Meguiar's, Optimum, Menzerna, etc. That will give you the best finish and the best results.

If you don't want to go through all that trouble, then just wash, clay, Z5, and top it with a wax of your choice (complete optional since Z5 is a sealant, which does the same job as a wax). The Z5 will do minor filling of the swirls, but they will be back over time.
