FAQ: Release Series 2.0 Yellow xB

OK guys, this is hot off of the press. In fact, it is so hot that I don't think the press has had a chance to get ahold of it yet.

I have been told that the Release Series 2.0 xB will be bright yellow. It will feature some things like mirrors with turn signals, and the mirrors will angle down when you put the car in reverse. How neat!

UPDATE 1/11/05: The official announcement from Scion:

Scion, from Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc., announced today that a limited-production xB Release Series 2.0 will go on sale this March.

The 2005 xB Release Series 2.0 is the third limited edition vehicle for Scion, and like its predecessors – the Hot Lava xB Release Series 1.0 and the Absolutely Red xA Release Series 1.0 – this xB will offer unique interior and exterior appearance enhancements.

All xB Release Series 2.0 vehicles will have an eye-catching, bright Solar Yellow exterior. Exterior features include color-keyed side mirrors with integrated turn signal indicators, color-keyed rear spoiler, a tunable sport muffler and a metal sport mesh grille.

Inside, stainless steel xB Release Series 2.0 appliqués line the door sills, and black fabric with yellow accents are designed to match the brilliant yellow exterior paint. As a reminder of the exclusivity of this vehicle, a small numbered plaque will be applied to the interior of each Release Series car.

Only 2,500 units of the xB Release Series 2.0 will be available at Scion dealers nationwide. The xB Release Series 2.0 model will carry a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $1,375 over the base price of the xB.

I'm waiting until the next limited comes out before I buy one. Who knows what color it will end up being? I can see how yellow could be a possibility since they have made bBs that color in Japan before. If you get any photos, company or newswire press releases then please let us know. Until then I'll keep dreaming. I was actually hoping for the lime one, though yellow would be okay too. I've never liked turn signals in the side mirrors. I think side mirror turn signals are ugly and pointless. They look like something people with too much money do to their cars just to say they have "custom" sideviews. Having them angle down when reversing would be a nice touch though.

Yellow would be cool, just think of all the other yellow vehicles out there. We bought a yellow Jeep and thought there wouldn't be that many now you see a yellow jeep every 5 minutes of driving around. Might look real good on a BOX though :!: 8) I'd like to see a nice bright blue metallic that would be off the hook!!!

How is it that people keep trading in their Scions as soon as a new version gets released? Do they take a huge depreciation hit? Find some private party sap? I dunno about yellow though... not a fan of yellow boxes.

In the case of the hot lava's, no. They are selling for more than purchase price right now. Remember, they were only offered in 27 states. That leaves a lot of people in 23 states wanting them also. Huge demand + no supply = $$$

Lava's are nice and all...I just wouldn't want 2,100 other owners out there having the same colored car. But whatever, my opinion...

If that's true about the mirrors...I want =)And how mant BSP & TCM are out ther? Definantly more than 2100.

Funny thing about Hot Lavas is at the last Boxx Run, the NY edition, out of about 20ish cars, I was the only Polar White box, and there were more Hot Lavas than any other colors.

In Ft Lauderdale FL, I see as many HL's as I do all the other colors combined.

Well the thing you have to remember is, the lava's aren't being made anymore, camo's and polars are, since Scion is still new there's not that many, more will come...but the lava's are done, there aren't anymore.

Hmm, side mirrors that point down when going in reverse. The first time I saw this feature was a mid-90's BMW 7-Series. I dont even think the LS430 does that.

This may make me sound really dumb, but what is the point of a mirror that angles down when the car is in reverse? Then how would you see anything in the mirror while you are backing up?

Well since I always make right lane changes by looking over the shoulder, my right side mirror is always pointed at the ground so i can parallel park and align myself with the curb to line myself up against so i can park flush w/ the sidewalk. The mirrors pointing down might be for the same reason except automatic so they wouldn't have to move the mirrors.

This may make me sound really dumb, but what is the point of a mirror that angles down when the car is in reverse? Then how would you see anything in the mirror while you are backing up?

the idea or the mirror angling down is for parking. the passenger side mirror that is. this way you see the curb and not rub your wheels. acura has been doing this on the TL's and RL's, not sure if lexus does, maybe they'll start.

as for lime or yellow, i'm sure toyota will do the yellow. it's allready a JDM color over in Jpan just like last year Jpan has the hot lava before scion launched.

I would rather see a baby blue one or a lime green one myself.

My dealer told me yesterday that they are in fact making the RS 2.0 Yellow. She didnt say what else was coming with it but its going to be yellow. Yellow isnt my fav color so i doubt i would buy one, I'm happy with my BOP. :D

RS1's ranged from about 15.5/6 to a few that had way to much dealer installed crap and were pushing 25k off the floor.

I paid out 18.1k cash to get off the lot - which seemed to be about 'average'. Got ALOT more than that in it now though.

RS2 shouldn't be much more if any at all. Few hundred tops.

yeah i walked out paying 19k....that was with an alarm and extended warrentees with tax n everything...but thankfully the dealer only threw in the floor mats extra, and even those i didnt want...but hey i'm happy now. and i agree with whoever said it before....theres only ONE original release series...the hot lava.. when is scion gonna stop making em? i dont think they should even make another rs xb cuz then they arent all that cool anymore...you kno? it already sucks that there is 2100 of em around, i wish it was like the 1500 or something for the xa....lifes not fair..

The RS 1.0 xB package was $980. I only got floormats, so I paid about $15,250 plus tax & title.

The RS 1.0 xA package is $2,200 due to the sunroof and wheels.

I'd bet that the RS 2.0 xB package will be much more than $980...

this month in sport compact car they are showing tha 1st series xa,it is red with different interior,sunroof,alloys and different grill they give the premium at 1395 usds

there's been one on a local lot .. been there for a good while now. Think most everyone around these parts are totally unimpressed with "red" being some special color.... big deal... red... wow.... hold me back... there's a color I haven't seen on damn near every single model of car ever produced.....

The lavas aren't really limited editions, lava is a standard color in japan so there are probably lots and lots. Limited usually means less than a thousand. Plus look at all the other metallic orange cars out there they all look the same. :P

we already have enough yellow cars already. how bout something funky like a nice metallic light bronze or something colorshifting. i still have yet to figute out how to post a pic so if someone can PM me on how too i'll post a nice pic i found of a JDM special color :oops:

They're supposedly going to make more like 2500, so the average dealer might get more than one.

What options/packages is it going to come with besides the turn signal/tilt mirrors?

I'm sure it will have a different grille, and I understand that it'll have the spoiler and TRD muffler standard. We don't have any "official" info yet.

As far as ordering one, we don't have that info either. There's no official dates yet that we know of.

All I'd want are the turn signal mirrors. After putting so much work into accessorizing/customizing my xB, I wouldn't want to have to start over again. :oops:

This chick @ my school has already seen it. She won't give me any details on it though. She just said it is gonna be yellow. I said who am I gonna tell? And her response was the peeps @ Toyota. If she would have told me I would have gave u guys the details on it :twisted: Scion is so overprotective with their cars. I like the fact that I have a Toyota/Scion/Lexus source. The yellow is Solar Yellow, code 576, the same color that's been used on the Matrix, Celica, and MR2 Spyder.

I like the front grilles thought. Maybe people can order those fancy mirrors that the new release will have :?: :?: :D That would be nice.

I heard this from a person that was at a Scion meeting -- he/she actually saw a picture of an xB RS 2.0 up close and FOR SURE it will be Solar Yellow, it will have a custom grille just like the RS 1.0 xA, a spoiler, TRD exhaust or just the exhaust tip (couldn't tell from the pic) the picture also showed a moonroof but that option will probably not be on the production model (recent consumer surveys of xB and xA 1.0 buyers indicates that most consumers do not care for that option -- his/her words, not mine), and it will have the tC's turn signal mirrors. A set of upgraded wheels did not seem too likely (this person suggested that aftermarket wheels would make the car look even cooler, suggesting to me that the production version of the 2.0 will not have anything special for wheels).

It is due out in March, and dealers should expect a press release soon detailing all the options, as well as the volume. I would anticipate that 1500-2500 number, but 3000 doesn't seem out of the realm. (Volume will depend on the cost of the package -- if it is less than $1500, considering the popularity of the xB, I can't see why Toyota wouldn't build enough for each store to get two or three of these things. IMHO, the xA was limited to 1550 because no one was sure how well a $2200 package would sell on the low volume xA, especially with a manual transmission.)

How can you take pre orders for NOTHING OFFICIAL? I work closely with our Scion sales manager and he has talked with our rep and there is nothing about an RS2.0. Give me a link or something official. So far I think this is just hype/hope. I do hope they make it, I would have originally wanted a solar yellow Scion. But lets get some concrete proof posted!

Where? I'd like to check. I've been through the regional scion section and saw nothing. Is it in the sales section? I don't usually go there since I'm with parts & service.

I'm not sure if you can access it from parts. Depends on your system administrator. I'd suggest catching your Scion manager and asking him/her to go online to dealer daily and going into "scion vehicle maintenance." This is the section where all the colors and PPOs are selected for vehicles -- if you have them check xBs, you'll see seven colors listed, and one of them is yellow.

Sure enough there it is. I just saw a letter to our Scion Sales Manager and early next year Solar Yellow limited edition! SWEET :D

Don't more people paint their xB's?


I would think that custom paint and then vinyl would be one of the most obvious expressions of individuality and personalization. I have seen customized xB's resell priced at $24-26, so I assume that a few Grand for paint is not scaring anyone away from doing it. Also, I am guessing that nobody is afraid of devaluating a potential future classic by changing a factory color.

If people like yellow or that limited edition Lava why do they seem so reluctant to repaint? Is it only acceptable if it is a factory-offering?

Anyone shed some light on this?

This isn't the only dealer taking reservations/ preferences for RS 2.0's. I've already got my money in at my dealer. :mrgreen:

I just spoke with cavander scion in San Antonio Tx, as I am buying a 2005 xB when I get back from germany and the (1.0 / lava) will end and the (2.0 / yellow) will release after. They are checking on the release date for me as I want my short bus.

My Regional Rep just stopped by the dealership and he told me that the RS 2.0 xB will be released in Feb., which means it really wont be out till March probly cause toyota are a bunch of slackers hence the tC supercharger. They also said that the absolutely red RS 1.0 tC will be out around summer of 2005. I will keep everyone posted on them :D

Hey guys I am brand new but I have been lurking around the board for a couple weeks now and I have to say I like what I see.
I would just like to know where you guys are getting this info. I have called 3 dealerships in the Michigan area and all of them have told me the same thing. NO WAY they said the only new color comming out is a red TC. I would like to know because I have an ___ load of parts waiting for my xb to come in next month but if what I am hearing is true (and it dosen't sound like it is) then I will wait

They are limited. That term has been majorly abused. Ever check out a Grand Cherokee LIMITED or a PT Cruiser Limited Edition? They make as many as they can sell - now that's not a real limited... No other car maker does a Limited release except when the car is cost-prohibitive...

You can no longer go into a dealership and order a Hot Lava with all the options that were availible for the RS1. Yet you can still order the box in all the colors that they originally came with. This makes it a limited edition to me.

Looks photoshopped. It still looks funny cuz of the grill and the yellow paint. I agree with WagenMaster y would u leave the side markers there and still have the side mirror indicators.

i just got an advertisement of the 2.0 release series in my new Maxim. It looks pretty cool. Just dont like that sport grill too much. Its a little plain. Im diggin' the side mirrors though.

well I've placed my order for my "short bus" :love: should place the deposit next month and give options list and then they should have it in March they said.

Just not sure what other options I want. I'm thinking short throw shifter since I'm going with the manual. Should I get factory installed aftermarket style intake too? Any other options you all would suggest? Dont want to go too crazy due to the fact I want to keep the price low. (yes I know it's not very expensive anyway but still)

I wish Scion would show the RS 2.0 with the wheels that come on it. It's very deceiving the way they always show it with aftermarket wheels. When we purchased our XA RS 1.0 there was some question as to if the wheels came with the car. So all those who are thinking about getting a RS 2.0 just remember to hold back some money for wheels. The stock one just don't do it for me.

is the motor going to be a 2.0 or 1.5

I'm really happy with the Solar Yellow color that came with the RS 2.0. I was scared that it would be too "pastelly" like the VW, or too dark like the Xterra SUV.

I am extremely happy with this car, and with all the money I saved on a Scion, I'll prolly go and spend it all on accessories I don't need... lol

I have a feeling the RS 3.0 will either be red or indigo ink.

Although who knows. Toyota has alot of colors in their cellers. I have gone to the toyota Japanese site although I can not read any of it I was able to navagate it with some ease.

Gawd I saw cars that are so weird. The Will Cypha just to name one.

The Yellow of the 2.0 is the same skock toyota yellow the the Celica has.ooo big deal. One thing that really bugs me about the RS 2.0 is, that the seal for the rocker cover is not color matched! :flame: All the other Xb's have color matching seals. The Lt. grey sticks out like a sore thumb. Meaning I am going to have to go to a auto paint shop and try to find a matching pin stripe to cover the nasty over sight. So far everybody that looks at the car goes right to that spot, and has something to say.

I just tell them Toyota Fu*ked up.

I have taken out the resonater from the DC muffler it made a great difference in sound. Now it no longer sounds weenie but like there is something bigger under the hood.

I also found seat covers on e-bay form "the seat cover factory" they look stock and cover the whole int. including all five headrests. They run $67.94 incl shipping to Bothell , shipping might be a bit more or less for you. A friend of mine has them in his xB I thought he has redone his seats. When he told me that they were seat covers I was very shocked they looked so good.

New to scionlife...Well my wife and I were out riding our gsxr 750 on Sunday night and passed by David Maus Toyota in Sanford, FL and this yellow xB caught my wife's eye. We went back on Monday afternoon and it was gone. Luckly some older folks took it for a test drive and didn't like it because the exaust was to loud for them. So we started our paper work and picked up our new 2.0 solar yellow xB # 357 of 2500. so that's my sappy story.

Bought our RS 2.0 #214 Saturday March 5th and couldn't be happier.

I am starting to love them. I saw a well equipped one on the freeway not to long ago. I took a visit to Carson Toyota-Scion today and they had 2 RS 2.0 xBs and they both had special rims and had 1 RS 1.0 xA.

Well, the dealer called Saturday and said mine should be on the truck coming in on Monday 11Apr. :P

FINALLY !!! Mine has arrived this morning. Having the options installed and the sunroof added. Should be able to pick up on this Thursday or Friday.

your gonna love it!!.........................good luck, i own 3 other vehicles, but i can't stay away from my scion, rs 2.0 in solar yellow,,,,#134 here in new york city, I just received my new wheelskins xb steering wheel leather cover in two-tone yellow / and black ,,i paid $33.00 it looks real good and feels great on the hands when driving, also the limited release 2.0 yellow and black carbon fibre b pillar applica around the sides windows gives a nice look, they cost $158.00,landed........ rain guards above doors looks good too ,,only $36.00 all bought on line thru ebay,, i added some brushed silver license plate frames that say scion,,,,,cost $24.00 each......................also floor mats in black graphite with yellow trim borders around all the edges look really nice when the amber colored interior lights illumination reflect off of them,............i understand that the 6 cd changer that i upgraded has different color screens , how do the colors change?anyone know how to keep it changing? i did it once but it stopped, i can change one color at a time,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,itz probably something real simple i got to play around with it some more,, next i'm waiting for my dash board yellow/ and black carbon fibre dsah kit to come from benevenuto, i'm going for the super deluxe kit 45 pieces................itz gonna change the whole inside appearance of my xb. release 3.0 in solar yellow...........

I agree that you will love it. I was more into the fact that it was a special release than for the color. The color grows on me more and more especially after doing some mods. It is just so much fun to drive and you get looks where ever you go. I got sweet 16 which was way better than I had hoped for.

:pray: I would like to know if the single canister xb exaust that comes on the 2.0 will be avaible for purchase for my scion. as well as the side view mirrors

The exhaust is DC sports and I believe it is available of course without the RS2 tag on it. I heard the sideview mirrors have been available for awhile but the fit is not great

does anyone know of any exhaust systems by mugen, greddy, or skunk2 that are bolt on to the xb, that meet the 95 decible requirements for ca.

I got mine rs2 two days ago. Paid sticker and taxes. The dealer had 13 in the original allotment. Only five were remaining in their stock when I got mine.

Next day I show it to my best buddy. This car is flawless. Everything I waited so long for is in the xB... and I got a safety color by holding off for a year until FINALLY a neat, bright color came along. (Lava is cool but I did not want orange)


I showed it to my best buddy. He drove it. His old car is an oil leaker. He said "I want one!"

Today we went back to the dealer and my friend got his rs2, too. Now there are four remaining in dealer stock and they say- they won't be getting any more.

My friend and I have identical, perfect yellow xbs in solar yellow.

He hasn't bought a new car in about thirty years. Always bought used. He'll turn 91 years old next month. He learned to drive in 1924.

Cool is cool. The car and the driver match. Young guy.

Just got my Solar Yellow #792 last week. Having parted ways with my Liquid Yellow MINI it was meant to be getting another Yellow car. In fact the yellow between my XB and the MINI was almost exactly the same. With some mods I think I can get the xB handling almost like the stock Cooper.

I got my RS 2.0 #1844 two weeks ago. I love that car. I used to drive corvettes and cameros but I will never go back. The engine is wayyy smaller but the room inside more than makes up for it. And besides that, I get more attention and looks in my XB. The bright yellow helps!

Hello all! Just got my RS 2.0 #507 yesterday. Loving it so far!

I just bought #1219 today (Mother's Day) in Fremont, California!!

Went to get my BCP xb oil change, had 45 minutes to kill and spotted the yellow xb on the lot. Checked it out and fell in love. Traded on the spot and drove it home that night! Took all my upgrades off the BCP and put it on the yellow...looks great! Does anyone know how many states sold the solar yellow? Bought mine in Cincinnati.

Just picked up my xB RS 2.0 5 speed #2472 on Saturday...drove all weekend long.

It's been a year long process getting into this car - originally wanted BOP or TCM, but shortage of 5 speeds made me grab this one - glad I did!

First words out of my uncle's mouth - "you bought a BOX???" (and he drives an old Suzuki Samurai) - I told him "no boxy comments from you!"

I was 45 minutes late getting INTO Target because people kept stopping me in the parking lot. But I got the coolest clear plastic floormats that glow purple!

Love this car, and the attention it gets!

Got mine about a month ago. Every dealer option except the moonroof, lowered springs and cup illumination. This vehicle has become the new corporate image for my business. It's on our fliers, promo ads, television and our business cards. I am nowhere near done with this vehicle.

My way of thinking as to the 'release series' - they must be kept AS IS to be special.
Think about it.....the entire Scion concept is to personalize. Any of these cars have the opportunity (in the right hands) to be something special.

Mine will never have any expensive mods. Just an occasional 'freshening up' if you will.

Being cheap takes the fun out of it - I know :eyebrow:

I was looking at one of these this week and I can't decide if i should get it. Honestly, I really like it, but the dealer has added a few mods to it that jacked the price up. I would like to keep most of the mods but I am sure it would save money if I bought a stock one and added the mods on my own.

ok, i just put a down payment on a nice manual Xb RS 2.0, it's #1799. i can't wait to pick it up! the dealer had some extra mods that i didn't feel i needed (nav, tv's in the rear headrests, etc). i'll post pics as soon as i get it!

Does the RS 2.0 come in auto? And if so, do you think there are any left?

Lime or beddle green os the RS3.0Xb It is roumered that it will have dvd screens in the headrests, a colored keyed int. I do not know what else it will have to offer. I hope this time they give it some nice wheels(dream on)
