Hi 7aek,
I was not charged anything for the roof repair (bolt tightening). I didn't even think about tipping the service guy  . It would have been nice of me to give the service manager $10-20 to give the guy that serviced my car, so next time I will do that. -Jayme

I didn't have to pay either. They even washed my car for free...which I was going to do myself anyway. Maybe I should have tipped :?

No need to tip they guys. They are getting paid to do their job. I haven't heard of the common courtesy of tipping the service guy. He isn't like the pizza guy. He is making a decent living. No need for us poor people that buy tCs to be spending all of our money on tipping. We should only be tipping our Toyota Service men if we are driving a Lexus.

Yeah, I guess you have a good point. But, if they service my car AND wash it, I would have to tip them for that :-). -Jayme

My dealer didn't know anything about the roof problem and hasn't done any service on tC's yet. I even had them check all the bulletin's from toyota which they say they get updated every hour. So my problem is - they won't do anything about the roof unless they get it from toyota. I ain't gonna do it myself (unless it's not a big project - does anyone know where these bolts are and if they're easy to get to?).
What should I do? Did your dealers know about the problem from toyota?
Thanks, chris

why are you going to tip when you already paid about 17000 on your car. They are doing thery're job and that is to make you, the customer, happy. A car wash is nothing to them. Save your tipping money for those who deserve a tip. Now if the guy who washs it towel drys and vacums and gives you a air freshener (goes out of his way for you) them slip him a couple bucks. But only then.

Why would you tip? Its their job to fix whatever is wrong with your car, and to give you your car clean, not dirty. But then again, its a waiters job to 'wait' yet we tip them HmMmMm I'd rather tip the Chef, they did the cooking oh well

Go to another dealer. No one says that you have to get your car serviced where you bought it! I went to another dealer and they handled it just fine, as if I was their customer. They might not know about the problem right away, so you might have to leave your car for a little bit. Don't tell them what to fix, have them check it out themselves. They have a "techline" number or something they call and get the information.
Hope that helps!
-Alex

I couldn't agree more. But, you are a little wrong on the waiter job. They are paid under minimum wage (for the most part) because a person is expected to tip them. However, these guys aren't being paid under minimum wage. Like somebody said earlier, you bought a $17000 car from them. For dropping that much cash, they should be wiping your butt for free while you are there. Don't feel bad for them. The only time I will advocate tipping is if they leave a mint on the seat after they are done. Wouldn't that be nice... yum...

Sorry Russian! I wasn't trying to make you feel bad. I just meant that I would be so happy not to have to wash my car (since it is so hard to keep clean), that I would tip them for that. -Jayme

Hi Dustin,
I would just explain your problem and they will either know what it is right away or will have to call their techline and should be able to get the info from them. I had the bolts tightened at my dealership over two weeks and 400 miles ago and the popping/creaking sound has not returned - woo hoo!. Good luck! -Jayme

I would just tell them about the noise and have them figure it out. Have a mechanic come along for a ride with you. I didn't want to tell them what to do because every car is different, and if you tell them to fix something that's not really causing the problem, they might say it's ur fault, they did what u told them to do blah blah blah. So my advice is to just have them inspect it, but in case you were wondering the guy told me they "torqued" the two bolts on the sunroof. After that NO more creaking. Nothing that isn't normal for when you go over speedbumps and such. It was really bothering me too and I just couldn't take it!

What a ____ty dealer. If your car is under warranty and there is a problem with it, then they should fix it no matter what (Unless it is out of the normal circumstances).
