Anyone have any TRD stuff installed with their car. I ordered my Scion and it will be in Febuary. Just wondering if they give a good deal on install for suspension and exhaust. We plan on doing a full TRD Scion but we are limited on time so having them do it would be a plus if they don't charge the reg. $85 hr labor.

i got TRD quickshifter and exhaust...

And they installed that from the factory. Do you know if they charges you more then the list price like did they charge you $330 for the muffler plus install. Thanks

I had the TRD muffler installed, but only for one reason: warranty. Here are the pluses and minuses of dealer installed options:

Pluses:
1.) warranty coverage
2.) convenience (you don't have to do the work)

Minuses:
1.) cost
2.) dealers -- from my experiences -- have been known to do less than meticulous work. For instance, I had the AEM CAI installed and the MAF sensor was not screwed in all the way. I have a couple of other issues as well, but they're minor so I'll fix them myself.

All in all, I would've much preferred to install all add-ons myself, but dealers can be jerks about warranty coverage when it comes to DIY, so I opted to let the dealer install them. Things like wheels, suspension and if I so choose, other high performance engine mods, I'll do myself. I do however realize the risk I'd be taking regarding warranty by installing my own mods. fwiw...

All TRD parts are installed by your local Toyota dealers. Toyota factory does not install any TRD parts on any Toyota or Scion

Yeah I talked to Carson Toyota and they are giving me a good deal on some TRD products and installing them on my new xB. I am just waiting on a call back with the final price. So far it is $1900 for springs, struts + shocks, muffler, CAI, and front strut bar installed.

You do know thats about $750 for installation right.

Not to my knowledge. AEM does not include bypass filters when shipping intakes to dealers. They are sold separately. I know my company (Out of Hand Customs) does include one with all CAI orders even if it it isn's an AEM but we bill them separately. The dealers and other company's are probably just including that in the price of the unit. Our last order was for a 2003 Ford Focuz and we had to order the bypass separately.

2 things, 1 what website is that. 2. I know even at $500 it's alot for install but I'd rather pay more now and not worry about warranty issues considering we are purchasing a 7yr/100,000 warranty.

We're doing 3 TRD pieces in a package, the exhaust, springs, & shocks @ $300 or so in labor. Personally, I'd do it myself, but there are 2 good reasons to have your dealer do it. 1) It retains your full warranty. 2) Convenience. I'm all about being able to drive it off the lot and have it already "finished".

Thats the cheapest I got so far so $1,900 is kinda high. I just talked to my local dealer and they are supposed to get back to me tomorrow. I'll let everyone know what they say.

That's for sure! Many of the "technicians" that work for dealers are right out of trade school. To them your car is just another job that they have to finish in the time allotted by their bosses. The chances of getting quality work in this situation is very low.

Even for oil changes, the first thing I do when I get the car back is check the oil. Why? Because once the car was returned with 1.5 quarts in the sump.

They aren't particularly good about warrenty coverage at all. It seems that unless the customer brings them a dead car they don't want to be bothered. Intermittant problems seem to be always marked "could not reproduce" no matter how much information the owner provides. I think that having the dealer install an accessory with the idea that they will cover problems is a false hope. You'll get a hassle no matter what.

I'm not only concerned with the aftermarket pieces but the OEM parts. Because everyone knows as soon as you install an aftermarket part not installed by the dealer or not TRD they will say that any problem with the car derived from the installation of the aftermarket part.

Correction....ALL XB AND XA AEM INTAKES COME WITH THE BYPASS VALVE...i dunno bout other cars :wink:

you got a picture of that short shifter installed in your car? i wanna see how low it sits. i feel like i'm driving a pick up with this tall shifter
