View Full Version : Question for the Daily Driven Dumped xB's
David_Seale 10-15-2006, 06:58 PM How do yall do it everyday? I mean, when youre driving around streets, do yall stop up traffic just to clear a bump? Or do yall even avoid some parking lots all together if you cant make it up the entrance?
Just give me a run down of how yall handle a day to day life with your ride.
honey0bucket 10-15-2006, 07:16 PM welll by dumped...do you mean this....

i am actually a half inch lower now. my front bumper is 3.5 inches off the ground....
daily driving is fine, watch the bumps. yes you have to stop traffic for 90% of drive ways and speed bumps...but who cares when your SLAMMED :)
MattyRattyPoo 10-15-2006, 07:51 PM Yea I stop trafic all the time lol. I can't even put my RAZR cell phone underneath my front bumper or side skirts. I try to avoid speed bumps cause my side skirts rub on them. Sometime I just turn around cause i know I can't make it over a speed bump. And when going up drieways, i have to go crazy sideways to barly clear but then i have to watch if the drieway slopes down after the peak cause then my side skirts will rub so then i just pull out. I need air suspension bad!
Sciond 10-16-2006, 03:51 AM I just go slow I have mine set fairly low and I avoid bumps....I have the coil overs set so low that when I hit a turn real fast I get some rub....
Cravin 10-16-2006, 05:00 AM I can take the slow scrapes from driveways and whatnot but the donk sound under my ___ from big speedbumps hurts to my soul.. :(
nnnickkk 10-16-2006, 06:51 AM i hate speedbumps. i take them at extreme angle. also when we bottom out in between the front and rear wheels, what are we hitting?
willlangford 10-16-2006, 08:06 AM im just dropped on df210's but i also have a kit, check my profile for pics....ive had it back for two days and with someone with me i stop traffic but by myself ive been just avoiding bumps and ive been lucky so far... as far as speed bumps ive been able to just slow way the hell down and not have any issues so i hope that helps..
David_Seale 10-16-2006, 03:24 PM Ok, big question, is it worth it? I mean, with the everyday driving, is it worth avoiding all the bumps, having to go a different route, and everything else that comes with it?
Big_Bird 10-16-2006, 03:27 PM ^^OH HELL YES!!
i stop traffic all the time, avoid going to certain places because the entrance is too steep, i have done complete 180's and gone out an entrance cause the exit was too steep and visa versa. I love being this low, I am almost 2" drop on s-techs, mine settled a little lower tan normal, and i love it
David_Seale 10-16-2006, 04:08 PM uhhh, s-techs arent anywhere near what im talking about as far as dumped. im on s-techs and it isnt low enough for me.
MattyRattyPoo 10-16-2006, 04:24 PM LOL i think he is referring to peps 3 inches or lower or have coilovers/bags. But to anser your question, i think its worth the troubles, Its all for the look of the car IMO and I hate wheel gap. You gotta make sacrifices for a look of the car.
Big_Bird 10-16-2006, 04:37 PM ^^aah, as soon as i get my coilovers, i will be that low all the time, sorry, but jersey roads suck and so do inclines here, my s-techs are 2" so i dunno
Sciond 10-16-2006, 05:09 PM worth it! I have my coil overs set very low absolutly no gap between tires and wheel well...and the ride is very nice my rockers are about 5" off the ground
2tone_xB 10-16-2006, 07:48 PM besides apperance, i'd say it's worth it.
hope people know how to drive
when running suspenion like that.
(hate these Progress coils btw.
hopefully switching to JIC/TEIN.)

thanks...i never noticed that actually..i really need to get the good camera out and take some real pix..but i never have the time.
rebelMan 10-17-2006, 08:48 PM You get used to it. For me it's like second nature now. I'm on air and i drive as low as i possibly can. Sometimes i have rubbing up front but it's just the tires hitting the fender liners which i don't care about so eh

What do you hate about the Progress?
My car sits low as well. D2s cranked down with low offset Works. Its not too bad but you have to be aware of what youre driving into.
Sciond 10-18-2006, 12:08 AM well I really like the progress coil overs....
yea i cant realy ride dumped like that over here in houston. to roads are some what crappy haha. thats why i go threw only the roads i normaly go threw. but i see what you sayin DAVID about people ridin dumped i catch myself askin the same question..
2tone_xB 10-21-2006, 02:47 PM ride is very bouncy.
my shocks are blown and haven't
even got new rear shocks.
shoulda did my 'homework'
before i bought them. i guess
when i read 1-4" drop, i was convinced ....
...even though i'm only riding
on a crap 2.75" drop.

is it just the rear shocks that are gone or are the struts gone in the front end as well?
Filter524 10-21-2006, 08:56 PM I think riding way dumped is worth it... I'm on air and as rebelman said also, I ride as humanly possible so I rub a little here and there and I still do angle because it takes me a while to get the ride height set again even with the air gages. A good friend once said to me...If you dont scrape/rub here and there every so often, then you are not low enough! Oh and nnnickkk the thing we are hitting is a little brace that is right behind the front sub frame... i scraped it a little the other night, and i know what you mean when it hurts your soul! haha
stankubrick 10-24-2006, 12:12 AM It's a real PITA! Uggh.... Maybe I'm just getting old
Living in San Francisco, a 2" drop is a challenge, but 3.5" is damn near impossible (on coilovers). Since moving to SF, I almost never drive my xB anymore (or drive at all for that matter).
Even if I lived in the suburbs, I'd probably reserve the xB for the weekends. I know one thing for sure, as soon as I move out of the city, I am going AIR!!!
ElChupacabra 10-24-2006, 12:27 AM My side skirts are in the neighborhood of 2" off the ground. I would call that dumped. At that kind of ride height you absolutely have to be aware of where you're driving. I cant make it over any speed bumps and most inclined driveways/entrances are an issue. To me its worth it just for the perfomance and handling aspects. If I take a turn super sharp I put my sideskirts on the ground. Its a crazy sound but I've grown used to it. It really freaks out passengers who havent been in my xB very much. I have a picture somewhere and when I find it I'll post it to show how low I am...
blackwagon 10-24-2006, 12:43 AM its worth it, I am on air and i ride with almost no pressure in my bags my works scrape on my fenders because of the offsets but when a speedbump comes up i just raise my box up. go with air it saves alot of headaches i know because i drove around with a static drop for a year and i scarped all the time.. heres a few photos to show how low my box gets on the airrunner air suspension.

rebelMan 10-24-2006, 04:32 PM Thats nice as hell!! Is that the real Fabulous kit? It's looks soooo good, makes me want the kit now
just becareful when your lowered, speed bumps etc... :)
itsmistale2u 10-27-2006, 01:11 AM i used to drive a civic and it was about a zippo lighter off the ground. make sure u take high slopes sideways and if u can drive slow its probably the best LOL
damn houston roads..
hotbox05 10-30-2006, 08:33 AM i'm at close to a 4 inch drop and i drive my car every single day. in and out of driveways , speedbumps everything. just takes skill , luck , and prior knowledge of road/parking lot conditions. my front lip scrapes all day but what am I gonna do never go into and out of driveways? never go into parking lots? never go up my own standard driveway? nah just live with it.
stankubrick 10-30-2006, 03:03 PM Darren, man your xB is looking awesome! I think it's time for me to move on with the coilovers, though. I don't even need a car in SF anymore. I'm going to sell my coilovers and then the xB.
When I move out of SF, i'm going strictly air from now on ;)
hotbox05 10-30-2006, 05:44 PM lol. why not go air now? then you could drive the xb anywhere and everywhere. just ride high. let's just say i'm not looking forward to driving in sf the next two weekends when i'm out there for work. lol. oh well :) pm me your number bro i lost it when i got my phone stolen.
BrianxB 10-30-2006, 11:30 PM I used to drive around jacked up when I had my air. I didnt care, i never had to worry about anything. People used to pull up next to me at lights, roll down the windows and say "That thing would look sweet if you lowered it" in which I would reply "Like this?" and dump it to the ground.
bb20inches 11-05-2006, 12:43 AM i have had lots of slammed civic;s and bikes and now my xb riding low on springs or coilovers can be tricky.. after running air ride it seems to be the way to go.. u can ride low and lift to get over road hazards... best for my daily driver..
