What do you do when the opportunity to get a Scion xA and some cash; and you can do whatever you want to it? That was exactly what Scion Los Angeles gave us with a couple of hookups from one of our long time SE supporter and friend Verone from Longo we had our Scion xA and the talk was VIP, Street, this that and every other theme any Import mag was sportin on the covers. Then like a flood light came on and the chatter became uniformed and “Scion Evolution Rally Team” was set in motion. Now most peeps seen the cars and know of it but here in the US it is not as main stream as NASCAR but has a following as we quickly found out that parts or pieces we not readily available or in some cases nonexistent. But that doesn’t stop SE plus “you can always modify something”; now comes the fun part going from the standard all show and no go to stripped down and balls out.

On this project we had time restraints and a budget so with that in mind we stripped the xA down to its skivvies and took all that pretty stuff out and made room for the more important “stuffs” (TRD Paul reference) five key mods that immediately shouts out RALLY – Roll cage, OZ white spoke wheels, roof scoop, light pod and of course the graphics scheme our xA had to have them all no exceptions! So to get to the pictures I will spare you all the details about our build off for another post and let you all decide for yourself if the xA has potential as a offroad warrior? IMO love it or hate it will be talked about and that is all that we wanted to do is create a buzz and give everyone something fresh and exciting to look at. SE build team would like to thank Scion Los Angeles – Jeff Bal, Verone Panaligas from Longo the film crew and all that were involved to make this happen.

On behalf of the first “Scion Evolution Rally Team” (S.E.R.T) we are proud to present the first Scion Rally xA!!! (more detail write up and pic’s to follow)

Enjoy,

HAHA...there was an event at Knott's....

I was on a business trip on the East Coast so I don't know what you are talking about..

Seriously, mad props to you Jeff.

The event was so awesome.

I was talking to the folks from Scion Corp. and they were very impressed.

Looking forward to doing more events for the LA region in the near future.

Also..hit me up on my cell one of these days so we can do lunch.

Great job to all SE, Scinergy and everyone else involved for this event.

It seems like not all are aware that there are so many classes for Rally Racing. Most of the experience drivers have AWD vehicles. This text was copied from Nasa Auto Sport Association Rally Sport:

There is a class in rally for almost any type of production based vehicle. Generally you will find that the classes for higher horsepower and all-wheel-drive (AWD) vehicles include the more experienced drivers and co-drivers. Vehicles in these classes are also much more expensive to prepare and maintain. These high horsepower AWD vehicles are not recommended as your first rally car. Vehicles in the two-wheel-drive (2WD) classes tend to be less expensive to operate. Front-wheel-drive (FWD) rally cars, without turbo charges are the cars best suited for the new driver and co-driver. These vehicles have good torque, are extremely forgiving of mistakes, easy to maintain, and definitely less expensive to sustain. Rear-wheel drive rally cars are considered to be the most difficult to drive, but are generally inexpensive to maintain.
There are three important facts to consider when selecting your first rally car and class:
If it is sitting in the driveway and is paid for, it could be a rally car
your first rally car will not be your last because...
there are those who have rolled and those who will!
For a complete list of car classes, refer to the NASA Rally Sport General Regulations.

For more information about Rallying, please check this website:

Also, I didn't know there were so many Rally Classes, I always hear about STI's, and EVO's not to mention AWD Escorts, and GT4 Celicas.

Enough about this and back to the topic at hand.

Now Brian (sorry Carlos..I thought you had a different user name now...my fault) knows there are different classes of Rally cars.

Also, who cares if both cars are green and white.

Both projects were so top secret and none of the teams knew about what each team was doing etc.

Adrian I really liked the rally car.. I would really love to get a closer look to it. are you guys getting to keep it?? if so what show are you going to take it to?

scioninla
10-19-2006, 07:48 PM
I always known you as racerxa....

The car will be at Toyoyta HQ today for a car show.

It will be at SEMA as well.

We get to keep the car for 1 year.

I am sure you'll see it at a show.

You should check out the detail work Dave, Denny, Paul, Carl, Keith had put into this car.

Like Dave said....we built it to be different knowing we are taking a chance and not apealling to the mases as opposed to something that has been done before....

Scinergy's car was off the hook ..hats of to them.

To be honest with you, I had a feeling we weren't going to win due to the fact not everyone will like a rally inspired vehicle and knew that from day 1.

Most like a lowered car with a nice kit, full interior, sounds etc.....

But we always like to be different and willing to take chances.....

I really had no involvement in the build process (with execption to getting the brakes from JBT) but these guys mentioned above blew me away.

All the parts on the car are working units and are functional...this car can be driven in a Junior Rally series if allowed to do so (Jef...what do you say..)

I hope that with X-Games incorporating Rally racing just this year....the rally scene will be huge as it is in Europe and Asia.

Also...I am glad they built this rally car because it is a tribute to Jim Farley (one of the pioneers of Scion and former VP). In a interview he did awhile back, he wanted to see a Scion rally vehicle....the new VP Mark Templin loved the rally xA and I was really happy to see all the folks from Scion Corporate checking out the car and were much in awe on this concept.

When you see the car at a show check out the ride and step into the car for a closer look.

xSTANDxSTRONGx
10-19-2006, 07:57 PM
Now That I know more about rally (which I love BTW*) That car is a lot cooler to me. I deff wan to see it at a show, to take a close look at it.

*I said I love Rally, not that I know anything about it, other than the 4WD/AWD high power cars are FAST!

The build has been awesome!

Congrats to Scinergy for taking the honors!

Thanks to Verone, Jeff Bal, Mark Templin and the rest of Scion Corp for this amazing opportunity. None of this coulld have happened without you guys.

Thanks to all the support from SE Worldwide and the SE build team for a great time. I couldn't imagine doing this with anyone else.

We had a great time on this build, I learned a thing or two, tried a thing or two, and taugh a thing or two. I hope everyone had a great experience. I also learned new words like "stuffs" and "aaeehhH!"

On a side note, please do take a good look at the car and take a look at all fine, functional (scoop, gauges, swtches. etc. etc)detail work that was put into the car. The video didn't show nearly all the cool stuff on the interior and also our turnable wasnt turning) There were a lot of late late hours put into it. All the way up to the morning of rollin (8:30am Wed). Dave is a machine.

The car will be at EAF this weekend in support of Leslie Durst/Scion Racing Team/SE Member and it will be on display at Longo's Farewell Event in honor of Verone, who helped get this project approved with Jeff.
BTW, Jeff, I finally saw your screen name, now that you revealed yourself, you'll probably change it.
Our Rally car was on display today at the Toyota Motor Corp Campus and then went on tour to Scion Corp Campus. It is now on its touring phase, hopefully soon on the racing phase? Uh, Jeff?

We brought the car out today for the Annual 'Octoberbeast' Car Show inside Toyota headquarters. A lot of employees were in awe when they saw it. Too bad I forgot my camera at home so I was not able to take pictures.

Anyway the SE Rally car will be at the Longo Show on Sunday. Please do come and check it out. It might also be at the Scion VIP show in Pomona on sunday morning.

Update  looks like the S.E.R.T. team is at it again some quick updates:

No sleep for the wicked up at 5am in the morning to go test out a new suspension set up (more info to come)... The xA looks just as good in Tarmac setup! Just remove the qwick disconnect light pod and put on some J2 410's shoes with Pirelli P-Zero Corsa R compund rubber soles and she is ready for the track.

Here is a couple of pics of the suspension (sorry for the pics quality but it was late  ) I think the preliminary specs was a 1.5” plus drop, 3 degree fixed negative camber, 6 way adjustable rear shocks and re-valved Major thanks to Progress Technology for the setup and tuning.

why would you put those rims on that car?

First off which rims are you referring to? The first pics toward the top the "OZ's" are for offroad use and the one toward the bottom are for track or tarmac set up. Both sets of wheels and tires where sponsered by Pirelli, OZ and J2. Do you know anything about rally? WOW...you are SORRY! Oh btw Thanks for the bump!

i think hes talkn 'bout the J2s, i didn't like the 410s when they were silver, but since they painted it white it looks 1000000x better  and what can i say i'm a lil bias since im ridding on the same wheels =P.

410 Mesh rocks.... I have them on my GS400.

On the xB and xA the offset is perfect...flush to the wheel wells.

410 mesh rocks.. no doubt about that, but on a rally car?

the OZ, those were pimp when they were on it.. now you put street wheels on it and imho doesnt look good, should have gone with some lighter wheels for tarmac racing, or some stronger ones at that.

and making fun of my old car.. if that gets your jollies on, then go ahead.

then again, im not a car club, i am a single person who cant exactly afford top notch everything, but who says ADR and JAZ isnt in the same class..

No worries it's all good, we used the 410's because J2 is a great company and came through for us big time as well as Pirelli on our last magazine feature on the S.E.R.T. xA; that will be surfacing soon sorry can’t say yet who covered it but it was a great time.

Granted we are a car club but none of the money used on this project came from the club it was all done through the initial budget build for the "Scion Knotts Scary" event and anything past that has been sponsored by the manufactures that we work hard to represent. If you want feel free to stop by any of our meet and greets maybe a club is what you might want to get into.

Again no worries, I think forums cut the added body language and how something is said. So yeah saying it looks stupid is a little harsh compared to “the 410’s IMO don’t look as good”. It’s all words but that is how thing’s always get started then the he said she said and eventually the drama that follows on what other peeps think they know etc etc.

So with all that being said IMO I prefer the off road rally style myself but I do have to admit that this little xA has surprised me with the 410’s and the Pirelli R compound tires like an oversized go-kart.

Soon to be updating with new pic’s so stay tuned…

For those that were not able to see the HCI issue with the S.E.R.T. xA feature; Pirelli one of our sponsors on the project has posted a PDF file of the article that was scanned. Thanks again to our sponsors and HCI for the coverage!!
