Hey all! This is my first post here. I'm currently looking at purchasing a tC for myself. I'm going down to the Credit Union on Friday to get the financial details sorted before I hit the dealer and take my test drive.

Does Illinois require you to have 2 license plates? I would really prefer to keep the front end of the car unspoilt, but if it's gonna cost me in tickets down the road, I'll have to figure something out.

 

I believe in Illinois you are required to have both license plates.. since i got pulled over in Arlington heights, but at first they only give you a Fix it warning ticket...

 

I found some picks over at www.scion-owners.com that doesn't look bad. And all tC's in the state'll have 2 plates, so that won't suck too much.

The law requires 2 plates, but I have not had two plates on my car in il for over 10 years. Both cars I had purchased used and they had come from a state that did not require the front, so I had no bracket. With the first car I was too lazy to get a bracket so the plate sat on the dashboard for a few years, then made its way to the trunk. I am not exactly sure where the front plate for my current car is... I will try to keep this tradtion with the tC, but I am not sure the dealer will go for it.

 

Knowing my luck, I'd get pulled over in the first week.


Lex - I'm probably gonna have mine in about a month, give or take. I'm in Rockford, but I work in Hoffman Estates, so I'll be around. I am concerned that the paint won't be able to take much of a beating from being on the road all day. I'm looking into a clear bra, but I haven't found one for the tC yet. Has anyone else? Thanks!

 

I live in Illinois, suburbs actually and I had no front plate on my Jeep Ckerokee when I got it, after driving to work for about a month I get pulled over and the cop says I see you drive by here everyday, put a front plate on it or next time I will give you a ticket, so unless I want a detour I had to do it.

 

I havent gotten my plates yet, but as others said yes front plate is a req in ill... now I drove a car for 5 years and never even got a fix it ticket with no front plate, so you usually won't get bothered. Then again maybe the reason I never got a ticket for it was because the nose was like a V and really wasnt any way to mount it.
