Default Larger tires possible on stock tC rims?

Anybody know if you can squeeze the rims into a bigger tire, say 225/45 ?

I notice that the 215s are just slightly narrower than the edges of the rim. I wouldn't mind if the belt was just slightly wider than the rim and maybe a little higher profile. I don't zig zag thru the streets so a little leaning into turns won't really bug me. I'm wondering maybe with the bigger tires, get a slightly smoother ride and get a LITTLE better gas mileage.

Also, I hit many potholes and I'm scared of bending my rims.
Anyone heard of someone bending a rim?

I've been posting about this b/c I have been doing this research. You can put the 225/45 on the stock rims, but you are going to throw off the odo/speedo by doing so. Meaning that 60mph reading on the speedo really means 61ish. But yes, you can do it

Take a look at my thread:

um.. no you can't run a 245/35 on the stock wheel.. as the stock wheel is only 7 inches wide.. a 245 requires a MINIMUM 8 INCHES WIDTH. you're in danger if you think that's a safe setup with the stock wheel..

I responded the same way to that idea in another post. I wouldn't care what a guy you saw had, it's NOT safe.. and any tire shop that actually does it, and the tire comes off the wheel, is just going to get sued for liability (if the person survives the crash)
