Amsoil Oil And K&N OIL Filter
Hey guys,
I was at the car part store buying some mobil1 synthetic and a mobil1 oil filter. The guy was telling me that numerous tests have been done indicating that amsoil is a better quality oil that is more protective, lasts longer, etc compared to mobil1 (even though its more expensive). (i dont wanna start a debate here on how long it can stay in, I change the oil/filter every 5K)
He then was telling me that he believes that the K&N OIL filters are superior to any other filters, including mobil1. Again, more expensive, but what do you guys know/think? Is the amsoil really a better oil (marginally or not), and is the k&n oil filter superior to the mobil1 (again, marginally or not).
Links to both:
Amsoil 100% Synthetic: http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/asl.aspx
K&N Oil Filter: http://www.knfilters.com/search/prod...x?Prod=HP-1003
Also, is it not recommended to mix mobil1 oil with k&n oil filters? Or amsoil oil with mobil1 filter? (basically just mixing brands)

What I'm gonna be doing is using Amsoil (it's 100% synthetic, not based off of fossil-fuel oil like Mobil One is. My shipment of Amsoil is comin tomorrow :D. Expensive stuff though - $85 shipped for a case of 12 quarts. That's about $7 a quart.
I'm also using the TRD Oil filters - i don't see there being a problem with 'em.

I like their interval maintenance!

Yea, those intervals are in fact crazy, I don't know if I would do that however, the oil really does get dirty after a while.
What about the K&N oil filters, any reviews?

im running amsoil now. definitely a nice oil. i'd run mobil1 in my car with mobil1 filters for 40k miles in my old tc. worked great. but i think this amsoil is better. im still using mobil1 filtering though.
So what i'm hearing confirms what i've been told, that although amsoil is a bit more expensive, its the best stuff out there.
No reviews on the K&N oil filters though yet...I know mobil1 is good and I know that the amsoil filters are good too, but what about the K&N, its a brand I trust and the look heavy duty, but i've not heard anything good or bad

I'll be running amsoil for 10k miles between changes. I'll be changing my oil filter every 5k miles though... maybe 3k depending on how bad it is.
I dunno about K&N filters. I think they're better at making air filters
Sticking with the TRD Filters here.

Have you compared the TRD to the mobil 1 oil filter at all krdshrk? I've never had my hands on a TRD so I have NO idea of the quality vs mobil1 (which is what I use now)
The K&N oil filter is a Mobil 1 oil filter with a nut welded onto the bottom, so you can remove the filter with a simple wrench. Internally, they are absolutely identical.
I spend the extra buck and buy the K&N, because that nut on the bottom is more than worth the extra buck it adds to the pricetag.
