Default Shouldnt I Keep The Stock Stereo

I ordered the 6-disc changer and since the tC comes with a stock stereo that comes with the car which means you pay for it so shouldnt i get to keep it?

it doesn't "come" with anything neccesarily. My tc that i picked up on monday came from port without a radio at all, and when I walked onto the lot I had to wait for them to install it before I could take the car off the lot.

You are paying extra. If you want to KEEP the stock stereo, then order it stock, and buy the 6-disk after your purchase.

no because on the sticker it says included pioneer mp3 stereo and on the right says added: 6 disc changer so technically i should get to keep the stock stereo. So you cant say that it doesnt come with anything so that means i can just get a car with no wheels.

That would be like saying hey I ordered the special wheels but that meens I can keep the old ones to. There factory options to replace what comes stock. Like the other guy said you could only keep it if you bought the 6 Disk after you had the car. Also on a side note, what would you do with a car that you could get a auto climate control as a option? Would you have 2 climate controls then

Hmm... this is an interesting one... ??? In theory... you think you'd get the stock one too... but in practice, I haven't really heard of anyone getting it... especially if you're upgrading before you have even picked up the car.

I don't really know... but for $395... you think thats the complete cost of the unit... not just an upgrade ...

I guess if you had gone with the standard radio... then went back and purchased the 6 CD changer... I would think you could keep your old one in that instance...

Hmm... so if I were to take my car back to my dealer and purchase the upgraded Pioneer system... they would take the stock back??? Is that only true for the pricing of the radio??

I mean, if I were to purchase the TRD rims/tires... will I not get the stock ones back?? Like my TRD springs... I paid for the stock springs that came with the car... and when I upgraded my springs... I got my stock ones back.

How come this isn't true for the radio??

that doesnt make sense because if i got it stock and later on decided to change to the 6 disc changer i get to keep the stock one for the same price $395 and still get to keep the stock one it should be the same thing.

Here's the fallacy. PART vs. OPTION. Purchasing the 6-disc HU after the fact as a PART will cost you closer to $600, not $395. The $395 OPTION already has a credit for the stock radio which you are not getting. Just go to McGeroge's and look up the price of the 6-disc HU and you'll see what I mean.

Well, as Bushido mentioned, the 6 disc changer is priced as an upgrade of the stock when compared to what it costs to buy it separately. So regardless of the language used, that's the way they do it.

The only way you're going to keep the stock stero is to order the car with it, then spend your $400 on some other aftermarket stereo that meets your needs.

Personally, I thought $400 for a 6 disk changer only was pretty steep. And with the factory stero supporting mp3, I figure I can get enough music on one disk at a time. While having 6 mp3 disks in there would be really nice, I'd rather get an I-pod and figure out a way to rig up an input for that.

Dude for $250 of that $395 you can buy a Rio Karma and a line out to RCA cable and have all your songs in one tiny package.

CD Changers are so 1998.

There is a REASON there is a little cardboard insert where the HU goes in your Scion before you buy it, because it has been undetermined what CD player you would like, 6-disc or single.

Basically you are suggesting that the dealer to give you 2 units for the price of one.

Yes, you do shell out a price on top of what LOOKS like a standard price, but that standard price is for the car, which is a sum of it's parts, one of those parts being the single-disc head unit. Technically, those of us who opt for the single-disc PAY for the single-disc CD player, its part of the cost of the car, albeit a small one, but its not like it is FREE. Ok, so you can't go to the dealer and say, "I dont want a head unit at all, so take off $100 bucks on the price of the car." Hmm... maybe you SHOULD be able to though, many people's first mod when they buy a Scion is to get rid of the stock HU.

how about this if you buy a car with power windows do you want the manual window handles also. but it does say on the scion web site that the single disc hu is free. so with that theroy i should be about to walk in the dealership and just pick one up. i do know if i get new trd wheels i'll be damned if i give them my old ones. and when i get my cai and exaust i'm keeping the stock parts for sure. just keep this in mind these things are only important if you want them. no one wants the window handles. we aren't paying for option all tc's come the same we are paying for "port installed accessories"

Default well well

I just talked to my scion sales rep about this issue today, really nice guy named rich manas at kearny mesa toyota/scion in san diego. The "changer" price is definitely an upgrade price that includes the return of the single-CD player.

If you wanted to keep the single player, I'm sure they could come up with an even more expensive price for the changer HU...

Is it expensive? Of course. What from the dealer isn't?

Is it TOO expensive? Only you can determine...

I HAVE A QUESTION FOR THE GROUP THOUGH -- One poster mentions plugging in an MP3 player to a line in. I would like to do just that. Who's done it? What's the best way to do it?

Frankly I agree CD's are quite "1998" as the poster put it -- I can't believe they didn't provide an AUX jack in the front of the unit, would have made life tons easier...

So --- HOW DO I DO IT?

Thanks,

Ralphie

Haha... I just asked Rich about that too today... lol. What a coincidence huh?? He must be wondering why ppl are asking this question out of the blue... $700 is a very expensive 6 cd changer stereo... probably better off investing that in something else.
