i understand tire sizes and bolt patters but what does the offset mean?
if a tire has an offset of 35mm does that mean it sticks in more than an offset of 40mm?

i have 205/40zr17 yok. tires what rim would be better for the xb , or does it matter?

but as far as i kno, lower offsets means the wheels sticks out more...

I got xA and just installed 16 X 7.5 with 35ET. Front is almost up to the fender. Rear, however, still has approximately 15mm gap to the fender. Offset for rear can be 25mm. For 17", you perhaps want to go with 215/40-17.

To put it bluntly, offset is the measurement of the distance between the wheel's mounting pad surface and its centerline. But to put it more simply, yes, a lower offset wheel will "stick out" more, and a higher offset wheel will be sucked in more.
