Default I'm moving to the ATL! Now where do I want to live?

Talk about a big change! Sometime next month, I'll be moving from western Massachusetts to my new job in Suwanee, which on a map looks pretty close to Atlanta. I'm excited for the change, although I'll miss the Red Sox and the best boneless wings ever back home. But anyways, where do I want, or not want to live down there? I don't think I'd want tmore than a 30 minute commute either. So any info you guys can pass along would be great!

Well to begin with Suwanee is a nice area. I don't think you want to any closer to
downtown. I live on the NW side in Marietta so I don't know much. I do know that
if you go out HWY 316 towards Athens, the traffic gets horrific. I think out by the
Mall of Georgia is a very rapidly growing area with good shopping/dinning. But not
to close to the mall. Check out the cities of Sugar Hill an Buford. Close to the lake
is nice, rural as hell but nice.

Check out the www.ScinergyGA.com
that is were most of the Scion owners in georgia can be found.

hey man...hope you'll like ATL.

I live in Norcross - Peachtree Corners area. to make it easier for you.. check out areas close to Peachtree Industrial blvd. this is because you can drive this road from Suwanee all the way out to 285 - the loop around Metro Atlanta. Personally i would live around Sugarloaf just because it is pretty close to Suwanee and theres more "life" around that area. Its not as rural and has a good bit of things to do. There is a huge mall called Discover Mills and its a pretty fun area.

PM me if you have some questions man. Theres a lot of nice area's around GA..just get ready for soem CRAZY weather though. it changes constantly.

Hey thanks guys, I'll have to do some investigations into those areas. I hope I like ATL too, although I'm just hoping the Red Sox visit the Braves for some interleague action this summer! I don't mind living in a rural area; my college was in the middle of western Mass farmland. Crazy weather? Please. The old truism in New England is "Don't like the weather? Wait 10 minutes." I've seen blizzards in June, and 80 degree weather in January. Now my fiancee, on the other hand, may have a different opinion, especially when the thunderstorms come rolling through. I've heard they can be pretty impressive.

Welcome to Georgia!

I'm in Sandtown which is an area in south Fulton. It's still pretty rural around here. I'm talkin' farms and open fields and trees. I'm about 15 miles from Hartsfield, which is great if you frequently fly. Bunch of new neighborhoods going up, ranging from 200 to about 900 thousand in price.

I'm not exactly sure where Suwanee is, so it might be too much of a commute for ya.

Yeah I'm definitely not going to tell the woman about that one. So how often do tornados come ripping through the Atlanta area?

And I'm sure I'll be meeting up with some Scinergy people once I'm down there, no better excuse for getting out of the house than a car club.

I would estimate that the suburbs get a couple tornados every year. thank god we
don't get the big ones like they do in the central plains. mostly F1's.

So I FINALLY made it here to Georgia, and already, it's totally different here than back in western Mass. For starters, I left 14 inches of snow on the ground when I left Monday. Today, it's 77 degrees and sunny out there! Unbelieveable. Anyway, I'm living in Gainesville, which seems nice in the 18 hours that I've been here. Askme again in a few months what I think of it. 70 mph speed limit? Love it! And this Scion dealership I'm at right now is huge. It's the dealership at the Mall of Georgia, and I'm not exactly from a small town, but this place is big. And expansive. And they have some damn fine lookin' southern girls working here. I could get used to that... :D

You work at Scion Mall of Georgia? Or just visiting? I live about 2 miles from there, on the other side of 85 off Buford Dr.
Speed limit drops to 65 as soon as 985 and 85 merge together, then drops to 55 right after Hwy 317 (L'ville-Suwanee Rd) until around Steve Reynolds Blvd. Then back to 65 for a few miles until you get closer to downtown Atlanta, then back to 55.
Keep in mind that these are "recommended" speeds.... that really noone abides by, unless you see a GA state trooper.

if your not at least 20 mph over the limit in the left lane, you will learn the hard way
about road rage southern style.

No, I work in Suwanee, I was just having an oil change and stuff done since I saw this place when I was exploring last night. I have noticed that people speed on every road down here, which I have no problem doing. Hope they don't mind me passing ont he right... Speaking of GA state troopers, is there a difference between them and the white police cars I've seen parked in the highway medians? I think they've said "Dept of Public Safety" on the side, but I didn't get a good look. And what do the they use more frequently, radar or laser?

The Department of Public Safety cars tend to only pull over big trucks. They seem to be looking for safety violations other than speeding. I'm not saying quote me on it, but I have lived here 7 yrs. and have only seen them pull commercial vehicles over.

Now a little known fact in GA is that it is illegal for an unmarked cop car to pull someone over. That of course doesn't mean they won't call for someone else to do it.
