Timing Adjustment
I don't know that it's even possible on our little motors. On older cars, with distributors and carbeurators, advancing the timing was a common way to improve mileage, performance, and emissions here in colorado. Thinner air gave a richer mixture, and the only way to compensate, other than rejetting the carb, was to advance the timing ~8-10 degrees, iirc... The richer mixture was more knock resistant, so we could get away with it...
Hotwire EFI automatically compensates for altitude by measuring a more fundamental quantity- air mass rather than air volume, and also monitors/ alters the results with a knock sensor and oxygen sensor in the exhaust...
I doubt you'll accomplish anything, other than putting the EFI out of range, throwing a lot of error codes...

theres no dist on our cars, its impossible to change the timing. not even with dealer diagnostic equipment. you would have to run some sort of stand alone, I suppose there could be something to be gained, but then again it wouldnt be worth the time and cost to buy a stand alone and tune it properly.
The way to do this is with an off shelf offset key in the timing chain bottom pulley, on this engine the crank sensor is on the bottom sprocket of the crank . The offset turns the camshafts ahead to the new keys offset . Bout 2 degrees,
You do realize that this is a 16 year old thread right?
There's no way possible to adjust the ignition timing what the hell are you talking about do you not even know anything about cars for the past 25 or more years you've never been able to adjust ignition timing..... I almost think this is a joke question
Most of my bikes run either aRacer or Woolich software and I can adjust timing tables in the ECU all day long if I wanted to.
Now I'll agree it's not the same as or as easy as twisting a distributor but it can be done.
I would disagree that cam gears allow you to do anything related to ignition timing as was posted...advance or retard valve timing events absolutely. Change ignition timing...nope.
