getting ready to mount a sub box under the pass. seat and I found a problem. There are wires that come from the pass seat itself and underneath it by the a/c duct which plug into each other by the seat's inside rail. They are mounted on a bracket that sticks out about 1.5 inches. Is this wiring for the dummy lights on the dash that indicate if someone has connected their seatbelt, or are they important like for airbags? I am only planning on bending the bracket to where it doesn't stick out as much, or cutting it off, but the wiring will stay connected regardless. Anybody know?

I think the ones under the pass is both for that dummy light & a air bag sensor but not sure.

I can almost guarintee it is a sensor for the saet belts. Try unplugging it and start the car. See if the seatbelt alarm comes on or not. I replaced the stock seatbelts in my focus with racing harnesses and I had to unplug that switch

I sure hope it's for the seat-belt sensor or something, because the bracket is going to be up close and personal with the six-pound sledgehammer come tomorrow afternoon. Everything should be okay as long as it doesn't need that bracket.

You pass seat is equiped with a seat pressure sensor. So if it senses wait in the seat, and the seat belt is not connected, the air bag will not deploy. If it doesnt sense any weight at all, i'm not too sure if it does or does not deploy. But when you didconnect that wire, the computer no longer "sees" the sensor. So it comes up with the "air bag error" light, and the air bag will not deploy.
(if pass. is in seat w/o seatbelt. Air bag going off can cause more damage to the person than if they had no airbag at all)
(this info i found in some article about abag safety)

I think he is just changing the mounting bracket some to get it out of the way, I dont think he is unpluging the thing though. I hope not any ways for your passengers safety

that is definitely the wire though, no harm in moving it...
I left mine unplugged after installing my amp and the flasher didn't flash and the airbag light came on... plugged it back in and all was fine...

I'm going to get custom seats... how do I get the light to stay off since the new seats won't be connected?
