Factory XM and Aftermarket Radios Questions?????
....Ok im trying to find out whether or not you can hook the factory XM radio into a aftermarket radio...Im wanting to put a indash dvd player and keep the factory XM radio...Is that possible and what would I need if it is???
From what I know about the XM radio is that it's a module that connects to the headunit. Therefore, the module should be able to be used with other units. The only problem that I see is that most of the modules are manufactur specific. For example, the module that works with a Pioneer may not work with a Kenwood.
The Scions come with a headunit from Pioneer, so you might want to look into getting Pioneer headunit. However, if you do get another brand, the XM module doesn't cost much at all... I am pretty sure you can find them for ~$50-$100, maybe even cheaper on e-bay or from a friend.
Of course, as always, I could be wrong. But I think that's how it works.
