Default tC - oil change never done~

I am not sure where to post this at, so i figured this section would be a great place to start..

ok~ tC towed into dealership tonight, stated that engine was making a funny noise and it didn't idle right..

so~ Put in on the rack, and low and behold, THE FACTORY OIL FILTER was still on the vehicle! little red ring and all!

That person NEVER did an oil change on the vehicle and it had 33000 miles on it!

New Engine Needed!

I was floored cause crap the first 3 are free! OMG! anyway i had to share this!

i should have noted that its not my tC! nope, my xB & tC get serviced often, probably more than needed, but heck I guess its a perk working for a dealer..

haha. There's a red ring on the first filter? Weird, I changed my oil about 2k miles ago (first) and I don't remember anything special about the filter that was on there.

At first (when I read your story) I thought whoever changed the oil before hadn't changed the filter... which I have heard stories about, just not related to our dealers, though

hmm.. reminds me of this old lady that bought a matrix one time...

drove it for about 60K miles or so without ever changing the oil??

omg.. wow.... such reliability for Toyota, you would think, for having an engine even last that long??

some parts guy from Toyota i know bought it, which was where i heard the story.... he fixed it up.. replaced the engine... and resold it just for fun...

he likes to fix cars.... so yeah.. he does that sorta thing.... but daymn....

a friend of mine that works at a toyota dealership told me that one time they were changing oil in like a camry, forgot to fill it with oil after they drained it and brought back around. the owner drove away, the engine seized up out on the highway, and they towed him back. put oil in it, and it worked again. ofcourse if that happened to me, toyota would be putting a new engine in my tc.

you know, technically speaking, you could run an engine without an oil change if you plan on just junking it before 100k

which I'm sure eases the minds of all you used car buyers...

interesting article, I suggest everyone read it!

Is it going to be warrantied or is it not due to "neglect?"

omg!!! that reminds me of my twin cousins' crappy car. i dont even remember what it was, but it had an oil leak and they never bothered to change it, so they ran it out of oil!

that also reminds me of my friend who did an oil change on his truck, AND DIDNT FILL IT BACK UP WITH OIL!

you know in some states in the US, they don't allow you to pump your own gas right??

i've driven through and filled up before in those places.... it was really weird having "full service" vice the very common "self service" signs you always see and wonder why they're there in the first place...

so yeah... it's understandable.... sad indeed... but understandable.
