I just did my first oil change on my 2005 xB @3000 miles. I purchased the oil filter and drain plug washer from the dealership. I switched to Mobile1 and put in 3 quarts (There wasa post last year that I remember reading 3 quarts). I started it and let it run for a couple of minutes and then checked to oil level and it is half way between L and F. Is that right??? I checked to owners manual and did not find any references to oil capacity. Does anyone know the correct amount of oil that needs to be added??? Any replies would be greatly appreciated. It would also make me feel better with the right amount of oil in my box, before heading to work in the morning.

You could put in 4 quarts and call it a day.

If you took the time to read your owner's manual, You will find that with filter, you need 3.9 quarts. I would put in all 4....

They take technically 3.9 but 4 always works for me.
The dip stick only reads between 2 and 4 quarts, so at 3 you should be half way up that dipstick reading.
I'm sure there could be a LOT of discussion about change intervals and synthetics vs. "dino" oil. I brought this up on a different forum where one of the guys is a Ferrari guy. This is interesting reading if you follow the thread:

If you haven't already, sit down and read through your entire owner manual! It's a good idea to know about the various parts of your car, especially if your new to the maintenance side of things. Just put in 4 quarts each time, and every once in a while check the level before hopping in the car to make sure you aren't losing oil. Once a month checks is plenty, and also a good time to check air pressure in the tires too.
