I did a search, and really couldnt find anything about this. I think my handbrake clicks way too much...

Default I'd agree with you....

From the time I received my xA at the end of June, my emergency break has always gone well above halfway, very close to the top actually. I didn't really think to ask Pete my mechanic friend at the dealership why that was when I had it in for an oil change a couple weeks ago. I'll talk with him later this week and ask him if it's common. It could either be the brake cable out of adjustment or the rear brake itself out of adjustment. If I have time this weekend I'll pop the drums off and check myself if I can't get in touch with him.

i pull my e-brake up to where i normally would and when i let off the brakes, it rolls for a second, so i have to pull it up higher. i think it needs to be pulled up higher than normal. nothing major, i'm already getting used to it.

It goes up high, but it works. You get used to it quickly. I don't even notice it anymore.

I hope nobody does. It's a waste of time. Why does it matter?

Well, if you pick up a full service manual (when it comes out for the tC)... it should tell you exactly how many clicks it needs to go up. That gives a mechanic or do it yourselfer an exact measurement... so when people tell me it goes pretty high, that doesnt help at all... why do you think it clicks... exactly for that reason. Its just an exact measurement. And, I really dont want my tC rolling into some other car on the days I leave it out of gear. :? So I wanna make sure its not doing anything abnormal... or that the e-brake is loose

Looks like the service manual (RM1104U Page 137) says:
"Parking Break lever travel at 196N (44.1lbf) = 6-9 clicks.

My PB is fully set at 6 clicks and if I pull the lever moderately hard it will go one more click.

Hope this helps

What service manual are you getting that info out of? It doesn't tell you that kind of thing in the owner's manual, does it? Do you work at a dealer? I always thought they should sell those things. I'm just interested in knowing all the little details.

No, I don't work for Scion/Toyota. I did a one day subscription from the Toyota Technical Information Service and downloaded everthing I could get. They've got the service manual, schematics and other interesting stuff for the TC. I'm not sure that the service manual is complete yet, seems like some things are missing (like parking brake, I can find the specs but not how to ADJUST them). Cost for a one day subscription is $10.

Also, if you do a search you can find a link for a portion of the manual that someone has already downloaded.

Default drivng with handbrake...

i don't mean to take over your post and I really didn't want to start another thread about the E brake.... but I had a quick question, does any damage occur if you drive with the handbrake for a couple minutes? i didn't notice but the service guy put the handbrake up for some reason. i drove a couple minutes at slow speed in the parking lot and over a few speed bumps.

is this bad for the brakes? or does it cause any type of damage? i've never done this before. i don't know if i'm paranoid or not but the brakes seem a little weak now. :?

The parking brake? I was talking about actually braking when driving and stopping. It probably got a little weaker from this?

well im not a tc expert but most cars (that i know of) have a separate brake for the park brake thats usually a drum... its on the other side of the disc... i could be wrong but thats my take on it :?

I know some cars with disc just have a built in parking brake. Its mounted as part of the normal caliper. The only style I have seen with a parking brake as a drum but is a rear disc is this cool set up for hot rods. They might use something else but I dont think they would because the more there is to put on the car the more it cost to make.

so is it bad or not? and does it have any affect on the actual braking of the tC when driving?

Short answer = NO

Parking brake (aka hand brake) uses two small shoes on a small brake drum within the center of the each rear rotor. The outer portion of the rotors are for standard disc brakes. You should be able to wear the parking brake shoes to the metal and it would not effect regular braking.
