Default Trying to improve sound

I just installed Pioneer 6.5 inch. rev TS-D161R in the front and back & Pioneer 4 inch TS-A1057 in the dash. All I hear are the dash speakers not the others. It still sounds like crap and unbalanced even after I adjust the factory deck. What would be a smart move to improve this sound so I hear all the speakers not just the dash and try to pump up the bass? Get bass blockers for the dash and a new deck that has a good EQ? So if I do those 2 things will it improve it greatly or just a little? I am trying to avoid an amp and woofer right now. Any ideas are welcome, Thanks.

You hear the 4 inchers more because they are up on the dash closest to you and being reflected by the windshield. A bass blocker is a must so you don't blow those speakers but that will actually make them louder because they will not be reproducing the frequencies below the cutoff. A set of L-pads is a simple way to control the level of those speakers compared to the rest of the system.

As for bass in the rest of the system, check the polarity of all the speaker wiring first. If any of the speakers are wired out of phase from the others, the opposing sound will cancel and you'll lose bass. I'm not sure if these colors are accurate but they are from the Scion electrical guide downloaded from this site.

Front left (door & dash): Purple is negative, pink is positive
Front right (door & dash): Blue is negative, green is positive
Rear left: Yellow is negative, black is positive
Rear right: White is negative, redi is positive

Thanks! I will double check those wires. Also is a L-pad sill going to be needed if I get a way better deck w/good EQ and put those caps on? I really do not know how to do the L-pad?? or want that extra button but then again sound is important. Is the L-pad easy to put in?

A new head unit will not fix the problem. Right now the front door speakers and dash speakers are running from the same output. You may be able to get them toned down by wiring them to the rear outputs instead. Then you can use the fader to lower the level but the rear will go down also. I don't know where all those connections are made to advise you on how to change them.

An L-Pad is pretty simple to wire in. Here is a diagram I found. You'd be using the "Mono Level Control" diagram for each dash speaker.
