Default purchasing an xb

I don't own a scion at all, not like my name would suggest. I was looking for an xB, new preferably seeing as they won't be around much longer.

The dealership i went to wouldn't even appraise the car i am driving now, a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart, unless I was willing to buy right then and there today.

I am almost 30 and i felt like they were treating me like a child. Needless to say I walked.

Has this ever happend to anyone else?

Uhhhhhhh what the hell?

I've heard some horror stories about dealerships, but it's mostly about dealers trying to bilk extra money for parts that should be free. And from what I've heard, most Scion dealers are WAY better than traditional car dealers.

That sort of absurdly bad customer service sounds...ridiculous. I mean, what the hell. It's a discontinued car for which there's still a fair amount of demand - why the strong-arming?

Which dealership (in what state) did you go to?

I guess if its a discontinued car they really don't have to bend over backwards for any one person. Someone else will come along and buy it.

Funny thing is my mother bought a tC from them a year ago and didn't get any of the hassle. They appraised her trade in before any talk of making a deal.

Go to a different dealership. That's not the way to treat a customer, regardless of age. They clearly don't want your money. The boxes are still around, you should feel comfortable at a dealership, if they ever try to push anything, walk away.

Hopefully you'll find another one at a different dealership and they won't try to push anything.

Or ask for the same sales person your mom had. I think it was just a fluke because of the salesperson you got stuck with. I'd email the dealer and describe your experience and give them a second chance to sell you an awsome xB.

I would have gone to the same salesman but he no longer works there.

The salesman said something smart like well if you buy that 60K escalade over there we will give you 20K for your trade, heck thats what i paid for the car.

What sucks is that dealers won't even give you a blue book amount for your trade, but rather black book wholesale numbers with are about 10% lower than KBB.

Trading in at a new car dealer is a good way to lose money anyway. You should always negotiate the price of your new car without even mentioning the idea of a trade. That way you have a firm price for the new car. Then offer the trade.

Nine times out of ten they will either try to renegotiate the price of the new car or give you a ridiculous offer for your trade. Either way, now you know what the real numbers are, and you can decide whether you're willing to pay that much extra for the convenience of having the dealer do all the paperwork and you not having to advertise and show the car to sell it privately.

But don't fool yourself: You will lose a lot of money in a trade-in. Usually you will lose literally thousands of dollars on any car they're willing to take at all.

If you want to pay somebody to sell your car for you (which is all a trade-in really is). there are cheaper ways to do it.

that's terrible to hear about your treatment....I agree with some of the others here, I would look at another Dealership. There is no excuse for poor Customer Service...My experience with Scion has the best I had ever had with a new car purchase, Sales and Service alike.

Considering you were a return customer he was way outta line. You should have just asked for the sales mgr. and explain what you wanted to do and what you wanted for your trade. If they can't come close just walk out and find another dealer that will want to do business.

Heck if they offer you 20 k trade toward an Escalade go get that in writing then change your mind and get what you want. The trade should always be done as a separate deal. The more I hear about this stealership the more I'd move on.
