View Full Version : Selling my sol for a box.. haha
IHEARTBOX 03-27-2007, 04:46 PM So yes im selling my 93 Honda del Sol in replace of something reliable. Its my first time buying a car from a dealership. Ive been really interested in the Scion Xb, Bb if you may. I was wondering if you guys got any tips for me in saving money cause i know dealerships are notorious for putting a hole in your pocket if your clueless. Also stuff to lookout for. I just turned 20 and in college so my pockets aren't that deep like some of you. Any help would be greatly appreciated and bring me closer to owning a box.
Here are pics of my recent ride im selling and my current project.

excel_xb 03-27-2007, 04:48 PM buy it bone stock. no need for those dealer add-ons. and u should be good. the only thing i'd buy extra is the gap insurance. other then no other add-ons and u should be lookin to 250-350/month depending on ur down payment. good luck buddy.
draxcaliber 03-27-2007, 04:50 PM get a silver one, they don't show the inevital scratches you'll receieve when you park it.
but of your choices, black is better.
Batmobox 03-27-2007, 06:20 PM I had a tough time deciding between black and white also, but I went with black.
IHEARTBOX 03-27-2007, 11:43 PM anyone else got any tips in haggling with the dealers?
burstaneurysm 03-27-2007, 11:52 PM You're going to have little to no luck haggling over a new Scion... they are pure price, and you're pretty much going to pay what the sticker says. Try to haggle over a trade in, if you're trading. Or, if you're really, really good, maybe you can get them to throw in some accessories.
But buy it stock... just about everything can be added aftermarket for less money.
krustytheclown 03-28-2007, 01:58 PM To begin with, the xB went out of production in January. A lot of dealers only have 1 or 2 left. Some are out. If you don't have the money now, youre only chance is to be buy a used one.
For the love of god, please promise not to put orange wheels on your xB ok?
To be a pain in the butt, the xB didnt come in black. Did it? I thought it was like a charcoal metallic. Do you realize that?

Uhhh... Black Sand Pearl?
Charcoal was Shadow Mica (the best color, if I do say so myself.)
kiss_kiss_kill 03-28-2007, 04:15 PM Go in there & look at the used ones. & then haggle haggle haggle! If you don't get what you want, leave the dealership & go back the next day. Or, haggle over the phone & tell them you're not very close to the dealership & you don't wanna make the trip right now unless you get a good deal. It works! Trust me, but it'll only work for a used one!
I also say....go with silver!

Ok, I don't remember seeing a black one, just the shadow mica. Did they have the black paint option through all the years?
lufoxe 03-28-2007, 07:45 PM http://www.scionlife.com/scion/xb/
that should answer all your color questions
DrBrando 03-28-2007, 07:49 PM keep the sol.
Keep The Sol and buy the xB. That's what I did.
mrfuzzy4 03-28-2007, 09:54 PM U can get a used one for 2-3k less, with only like 8-10k miles on it. Thats how i got boxzila 1.0
but now thats also how im getting boxzila 2.0
IHEARTBOX 03-28-2007, 09:57 PM im looking at a preowned xB cause i cant afford brand new. remember everything is coming out of my pocket not my parents. Also reason why im selling the sol is for a downpayment. But im keeping the b16 thats in it and putting it in my hatch. Anyhow sorry for being repetitive but you guys keep telling me to haggle but like in what areas can i haggle with is my question? Any specifics in trying to make the best deal possible on a used xB. Thanks i appreciate guys.
Also theres atleast 5 used xB's and a handful new ones at the dealership my mom bought her corolla from.
beau_boy04 03-29-2007, 04:43 AM where do u live? if you live in Los Angeles, and i just found a dealership that has 5 available :), other with 1 or 2.
hotbox05 03-29-2007, 06:51 AM i'd keep the del slo and get rid of the project.
white is better xb color than black cause the black is a dirty looking black.
kiss_kiss_kill 03-29-2007, 07:08 AM If you're in LA go to Hamer Toyota in Mission Hills & speak to Russ. Tell him Tina (or Shrimp) sent ya & he might give ya a better deal! I know they have a bunch of used ones there right now.
hotbox05 03-29-2007, 07:16 AM do you folks realize that any and all dealer sold used scions sell for more than new ones? at least if the cars have less than 30k.
krispies13 03-29-2007, 07:48 AM I got mine with only 9k miles on it.. 14,000 out the door.. with a free air freshner..

hotbox05 03-29-2007, 09:19 AM don't know how but good for you!. the used ones anywhere i've seen in all of cali start at 15k and go up to about 17.
I live in southern California and purchased an 05 xb from Buena Park Scion (right off the 5 freeway down the street from knotts berry farm) for $12,000 out the door. Sticker price was $15500 and it only has 19k miles. It took about an hour of haggling, 3 attempts to leave the dealership, and about 4 salesmen to get it for that price but it did happen.
As far as your poll...go for white, it looks much cleaner.

It was the fleet manager's xB that the dealership gave him to drive around for promotional purposes. My GF's mom knew him and haggled the price till he dropped it to 11k..plus taxes and fees 14k out the door sticker price was 17k. I went to the same dealership that Y923 the same day but walked out when Crown Toyota in Ontario gave us a call and told me that he would sell his xB for us. I got really lucky!! only 9k miles... still has the new car smell and he only drove it from work to home to work everyday! It was really nice of him. I asked him why he gave it up... he said the delearship are planning to give him the '08 to drive around in a few months so might as well help out a family friend!! What a SUCKER.. Thanks to him tho I'm a proud owner of a Polar white xB!!

beau_boy04 03-29-2007, 07:51 PM what is the difference between the 05 and 06 model?
what am i missing if i get a 05?
hotbox05 03-30-2007, 11:01 AM the 06 has different interior fabric , different front seats but only in how the seatbelt is attached , different radios , different steering wheel with audio controls.
krustytheclown 03-30-2007, 02:39 PM The early 06s were the same as 05s. Late 06s had the different fabric, and steering wheel audio controls.
hotbox05 03-31-2007, 12:55 AM true that. 06.5 ha ha

Thanks :)
do you know if 05 model has ABS with EBD, cruise control, daytime running lights? by the way is the EPA economy 30/34 like the 06 model?
Thank you guys.
jwaj2002 04-01-2007, 06:36 AM sounds like cali has the best deal for used, the few used xb's I've seen around here started at 20 for one with nothing on it, then theres the one I drove for 2 weeks (dealer's) that has 18's on it and most of the options minus cruise and few things, like most of the front bumper, thats going for 29k no haggle
bB2NER 04-01-2007, 08:00 AM White will be much easier to live with because of the crappy paint used on Scions. Plus it will stay cleaner looking longer.
If you get new stick with base model only and add mods as you can afford them. (why pay interest on mods)???
There will be a nice supply of used low mileage ones now that the 2nd gen is coming shortly so shop around cause there are big bucks to be saved. Good luck and enjoy whatever you end up with!
