The pictures don't really do the dirty filter justice. Much more of a dirty snow. Surprised how much it did work.

Made it from 3m filter I bought last year. Cut it to size.

Maybe you should cut back on hot boxing the, um, box.

 

You're using the purple 3M? Those are MERV 12 and restrictive? I used the cut to size with charcoal layer, I think it's MERV 8 or 10, because I was worried about airflow. Also it's meant to be cut down so no cardboard edges or need to duct tape.

 

Never noticed any problems. I also don't really run the air or heat to often.

I added a filter and the dash and windows are much less dirty now after a year of using it.

Building it was really easy. I found the thread on this site. The filter cost 8-15 dollars depending on which one you buy. Cut to measure. You probably could get four filters from one big filter.

 

I paid $2 at Walmart, 20x25. Merv 7 or 8, can't remember if it even said actually.
The wire mesh sure does a number on scissors.

 

I think mine was the green mesh

 

I add one to the cabin return air side also.

I use one of those house register filters, and use pan straps to hold it on. That pic was taken at the 3 month mark.

 

Look like a good thing to do, simple and effective. So where are these "filtering" locations?

 

There isn't a factory cabin air filter that needs changing? If so, was that custom filter you did necessary for additional clensing of the air or does the factory cabin air filter does not do an efficient job.
