Default Pic of My xB: Hit by flying mudflap on the highway.

On my drive to work this morning, a mudflap flew off of a semi and hit the windshield of my 05 xB. It cracked the hell out of my windshield, dented and chipped paint off of the pillar and totally knocked off my drivers side mirror. Also scared the bejesus out of me.

About to take it in for an estimate of damages...anyone know about how much it would cost to fix all this?

Oh man that's brutal damage.
I drive the thruway daily to and from work and I'm almost always dodging sh*t that flies off semis.

They hardly ever stop because if the get into an accident they don't get bonuses or raises through their company, so if noone knows but them they think they are ok...I work on semi's and one hit the truck i was working on on the side of the road and kept going, i had to call the state police on my cell and tell them and they caught him down the road. When they got him pulled over he said he did not do it, even though the whole right side of his truck was messed up and his door was half gone from the impact. It moved the truck i was working on at least 5 feet forward. Truck drivers are crazy ****'s, can't trust any thing they say.

Yeah he didn't stop but I was able to speed up and get his license #, trucking co, etc. But they're claiming the truck isn't missing any mudflaps so I can see this is going to be a pain in my ****.

I feel ya. My car was hurt around a year ago when an old man that didnt know how to tie down a load lost it on the highway. He was next to the litter on the road trying to get it out when the car infront of me hit it (going 80mph mind you, and i couldnt swerve cuz cars in the other lane) and launched it into my windshield. Though i just broke the windshield but nope, hit the roof too. Total of around $1500.00 in damages. Fortunatly my dad chased the guy down (After he saw that he booked it) and got his tag number. . . Insurance is still tryin to get the money.

But try to take it to a toyota dealership (they have the factory paint, so no tinting here), i know the one here (Mall of Georgia Toyota) did an amazing job, cant even tell it happened.

crap that sucks guys. i was hit by ice from the roof of a bmw x5 and the dude sped off cuz he knew what happened. there was no damage, thank god, but it it hard enough on my windshield that i thought it was going to break.

what i did was i sped up to the guy, in traffic, and got up to him and proceeded to get really close to his car and i started braking to scare the ____ out of him. he nearly stopped in the 3rd lane and took the next exit because he knew he ____ed up and if he stopped i was going to call the cops, etc. o well, at least i scared him enough like he scared me. an eye for an eye.

Don't forget to factor in the seat-cleaning bill in the insurance........because if I was driving and a mud flap did that kind of damage, I'm fairly certain I would have peed my pants.

Got a quote from a Toyota/Scion dealer - about $1600 in damage all together. I didn't notice at first that it scratche the front drivers side panel above the tire too. Luckily that's what insurance is for but I just hope it doesn't screw up my premium too much. Argh.

Your insurance might increase because this "accident" although not your fault happened while the car was in motion. your insurance company might see you as a liability and increase your rate. You should definately ask your insurance company before you file a claim and see get a couple of other quotes from other body shops other than the dealer and see how much it will be if you bill to the insurance and also out of pocket.

Did you know that most dealers send their autobody work to third party autobody shops anyways?

semis are definitely a pain AND they aren't the slightest concerned about us little cars. I notice when they see you coming up in the mirror, a lot of them will move over to the right a little and start flinging debris from the "emergency" lane...it really irks me! I think they just need their own lane and stay out of car traffic all together....let them fight with themselves for a while...

My bet is that you disappeared from his rearview, so he flung a few rocks off of the shoulder to get you to back the hell off his bumper.

I treat truckers with far more respect than the average Joe on the road, as a result, I've never had any issues with them. Always give them plenty of room and don't ride up next to them or right behind them. They don't like it.

They've got a job to do, so leave them alone and don't tailgate them or cut them off. It makes the highway a more peaceful place to be when the truckers aren't angry with us "four-wheelers."

I just got back from Nashville, TN...1633 miles round trip cruising between 75-90mph with the AC running...still got 30mpg(auto)...

somewhere near Littlerock , AR a truck passed me who had a blown tire on teh rear of the trailer...was smoking really bad...suddenly, it blew apart and I was dodging pieces...a very small piece bounced off the windshield with no damage...I slowed and let the truck get way ahead, but he never pulled over even though he had a flat tire rubbing teh trailer frame that was nearly on fire...idiots.

Oh no, I told him to grow up as well, saddlesore.

He couldn't take someone of a younger age telling him to grow up.

Age is merely a number. Maturity does not always come with age.
