Default superglue mistake...

Well I decided to do something incredibly stupid and use some superglue to attach an ipod holder to my dash right above the steering wheel.

I realized how stupid this was and figured I should remove it and never use super glue again for this kind of thing. I got most of the glue off with nailpolish remover but now I have a very noticeable area that is a different shade of black.

Is there anything you guys would recommend for me?

Wow I did sorta the same thing but with an aftermarket grill for my box....Biggest mistake ever! The crazy glue practically melted the cheap plastic....I ended up having to buy a new one....Oh yea and I used nail polish remover also, that only made it worse....But you can always paint your dash a different color, look at the bright side, your car will be a different.

Thanks for the replies!

I used some black shoe polish to smooth out the area, it helped a tad bit.

I found some stuff called Forever Back which I will probably try. It's a permanent black die for plastic and vinyl so it might help.

If I decided to repaint the dash, would I have to take it out or could I just paint it while in the car? And what kind of paint would be best?

I'm thinking of just trying the Forever Black and using some two-sided tape to put the holder back on without making it worse just so I can cover it up.

Time for a rear Scion logo right over the glue spot. Problem solved.

Well I'm assuming I would have to remove the dash and spray paint it, but I have no clue how to do this.

I also read that people use masking tape and just paint the dash while in the car, but I don't know how messy that would be

Very unless you used plenty of sheets to cover whatever you didn't want paint on. Plus the outside of the car.
Why not just add gauges to the spot since you didn't like the Scion emblem idea?

It should be larger than the base of the ipod holder you tried glueing.

Put an add in the private party classifieds. There are people selling them all the time cause they shave them off. The dealer wants like 25 bucks for them tho.

If you don't know someone who dyes interiors, talk to your dealer. I had a 3" "ouch" on my dash repainted through a guy my dealer put me in touch with for $40. Doing it yourself invites another problem.

You would def. Need to take your dash off and apart to paint. You have 3 choices
1. Put scion emblem
2. Put the ipod holder back with double sided tape.
3. Put a digital air to fuel ratio guage always fun to watch and cool to have.

Well I figured out how to remove the dash, so I'm thinking of just repainting it.

Would you suggest repainting it myself or taking it to a professional?

Painting dash is simple you just need vinyl paint from any auto stor and that's it make sure you put even coats and take your time use painters blue tape or any masking tape and get to it. Its a simple job that should not take you a long time good luck!

Yea you know I think I'm going to do it!

This is going to be my hard lesson never to use super glue for this sort of thing again.

Edit: I found a link to remove the dash.

Does anyone know what color would match the stock color the best? And should I be using vinyl or plastic paint?
