05' SSM Auto tC bought in March of 2005 with 47K miles.

1.) Rear left toe adjustment rod (IDK what it's called) need replacement as per a mechanic at Firestone while getting my wheels aligned.

2.) Hard to put to reverse gear from park gear. I depress the brake pedal twice and needs force to put it in. Happens 8 out of 10 times.

3.) Annoying screeching noise when backing up after being parked for a couple of hours.

4.) Interior rattles.

5.) Easily scratched interior panels.

I haven't started collecting data on the tC yet. I don't want to waste anyone's time, so I don't collect data until 25 owners have signed up to help out.

I've had about 22 for months now.

When I post this thread at some forums, dozens of owners sign up to help out. At others like this one, people mostly just post their repair histories. Still good info for forum visitors, but not any data I can use.

To sign up to participate, it's necessary to go here:

Now just a single tC short of the minimum needed to get started...

Got that tC, and started collecting data on the 2006 a month or two ago. Still need more participants--the more there are, the more precise the results will be, and the more detail I'll be able to provide.

Results for dozens of other models recently posted here:

TrueDelta Vehicle Reliability Survey results

Next set in November.

I need an alignment, but that is because of a massive pot hole the prev owner hit that bent the rim so much it wouldnt hold air..

I don't even include alignments in the analysis because they're often caused the things beyond the manufacturer's control. Like potholes.

I bought an 05 5 speed Tc, I now have 93K miles and the only issue was the sunroof recall and 2 other things i must plead the fifth on. (not problems with the car-PM if you need to know more). All in all, the car has been a dream. Not a single problem, as reliable as the sun coming up.

Oh and its a tank too, i hit a jersey barrier a couple winters ago doing 50mph and ONLY cracked the front bumper. I thought it was totalled, until i got out of the car and looked for the damage and could barely see anything.

07 tC with 48000 miles, purchased in October of 06.

In the shop once for 10 minutes to have my keyless entry reprogrammed (the codes were out of sync)

05 tC with 57000 miles.
- Sunroof rattle ~ 5k (2 dealers found nothing wrong, I found out it was out of the track and fixed it myself), been fine since.
- Hatch rattle ~ 5k (same 2 dealers found nothing, the interior plastic came off because 1 push pin was missing and a 2nd came out, I fixed it myself), still rattles sometimes although now its the regular rattle.
- Cracked a radiator cap ~ 30k
- Cracked 1st radiator ~ 35k
- Cracked S/C bracket ~ 40-50k ( i have no idea when and several trips to the dealer they didnt find it either)
- Cracked 2nd radiator ~ 52k

Good thing I got the extended warranty. Its all been covered but having a rental car for a few days to a week each time sucks. This car will be gone next time something breaks.

Excellent info, everyone. Unfortunately, my analysis can only include data submitted through the survey.

You can read the details and sign up to participate here:

Vehicle reliability research

The repair survey is a single page. If there are no repairs, the process just calls for an approximate odometer reading four times per year.

From potholes or curbs?

Interesting info on the gas neck in some earlier posts. I wonder if this is a common problem.

Just ten days left in the quarter. So far I do not have enough responses to post a result for the tC in November.

If you've signed up, but haven't responded to the survey yet by clicking on the link in the email, please do so. It takes very little time.

If I don't have a result next month, the next update will be in February. More participants would certainly help.

For the details, and to sign up to help out:

Default TC squeaks and rattles

I have spent no less than 5 visits to fix squeeks in my 05 TC's hatch. They eventually fixed it by wrapping enough cloth tape around every rubber stop that comes in contact with the hatch as well as the rubber stops attached to the hatch itself. ...My problem was that this tape wasn't kosher!!! So, I made an appointment to see a Scion/toyota rep. this last week. She told me that a service advisor had been put out on this problem for 05-06 TCs. ...They have ordered the new rubber stops for my TC. These stops are thicker all round its dimensions. So, I expect the tape to disappear and still have quiettttt PLEASE! The one item they would NOT stand behind was the rear deck liner that protects the carpet in the rear hatch area. These liners also wrap around the upper back seat cushion. They protector has been faded by the sun (@ 13,000 miles) in spotted areas and have lost their original color. They said it was not an problem with an o.e.m. but rather an add on even though it was done by the dealer and made by Scion at the time I made the purchase of the TC in early 05. Go figure??? ...One last detail: if you don't have the Strut Reinforcement Bar installed, or something similar, you'll never have the sweet handling charecteristics of a TC that does have it...
