Default Piece of Krap YOKOHAMAS!!!

I have to rant. I'm really disappointed with the tread-wear with the stock tires and it's even worse performance in snow.

Just rotated them at 5,000 miles and the Toyota guy says you got no more than 5,000 miles left on your front tires ( which are now in the back)

My rear tires which are now in the front, where still full of tread, very little wear are now wearing very fast (now in the front). I'm now at 8,000 miles and the tires which have the lowest tread, wore very little, front are wearing fast. I probably will make it to 15,000 miles and then i'm bald. My parents either use Michelin, or Bridgestone, or Continental. They all get to at least 30,000 miles before the thought of new tires comes in.

Probably the one big contributor to my tire wear is the mountain roads. All very windy, twisty, messy, all sharp turns. But still i expect more of a tire to at least last to 25,000 miles.

Now i know the front will always wear the most, Since most of the weight and control is in the front. But for most of all, tires should not wear this fast.

On the bright side after spending 10 mintues to only go 1/10th of a mile wedging my way up a 4% incline, i'm anxious and excited to get pure winter tires from Michelin on monday. Can't wait to get a break of these errrrrrr crappy, eeerrrrrrrrr yoko eeerrrrr hamas!!!!!!

well, you have low profile tires on your car, ergo, they don't last as long as tires with bigger profiles, also, your parents probably don't drive as aggressively as you do, so they get better tire life.

so if your front tires are wearing out so fast, take it easy when you leave from a stop, sounds like your putting too much stress on the car with your turning, braking, and accerlation.

and if you really want to, just chuck the yoko's and get some kumho ecsta ASX, $81 bucks a piece on tire rack, and a 420 treadwear. and they are a damn good tire.

hehe,

my mom drives like a calm obey the law driver.

My dad, LOL, he got a mercedes and he really pushes the performance, i'm talking 70 mph through a 45 zone of S turns, Hard S turns. He drives more hard core than i do.

And i ain't gonna drive like a mom or grandma, neither should tires be designed for that, they need to be designed for the hard core push the performance to the max kind of drivers and there are tires out there for just that!

dude, tires for life programs suck ballz. they are a total rip off. also, why would you want crappy tires for life?

my dealership tried to get me to by new tires from them they had "buy three, get the third one free", sounded like a good deal, but i asked them what wheels they have, and how much are they, looked up some reviews on them. and they were crap.

they had nothing but crappy overpriced OEM tires, winter tires, but i don't need those, summer tires, but it was january when i was looking for tires anyway, so not the right time for those, then the only decent pair they had was over 200 per tire, and had an absolutely rediculously low treadwear rating. they only other benefit was that i would get free mounting and balancing, and tire rotations for the life of those tires, but after crunching the numbers, it was still cheaper to buy and pay to have the kumho's mounted and balanced, and pay for rotations then to buy one of their crappy sets of tires for their nonsense.

now, more about tires for life, check very clearly in your aggreement that they don't exclude 'z' rated tires like on the scion, another member on this forum was super ____ed that the fine print said no for z rated tires.

I wouldn't say Yoko's suck...
Tires are not all created equal. Some are made for Summer, and some are made for Winter. Some are made for racing, and some for grandma's grocery getter.
Obviously if you purchase a tire for "performance", and it is made from a softer "stickier" rubber, it is going to also wear out MUCH faster that one made from harder rubber.
If you want an all season tire, then you can't expect it to give you as good a performance level in the curves or racing.
It's that simple.
In our case, we have two sets of wheels and tires. One for summer, and one for winter...

I dont see the problem with the free tires program from toyota, the only catch is of course maintenance through them and a mandatory alignment when it comes time for new tires. Hey id rather get free tires then pay like $200 bucks per tire which is how much these yoko's cost btw. And they put eactly what u got on the car when u bought it, or if they dont have any in stock theyll put a higher level tire, but u have to pay the difference . Im happy with it, i dont have to pay 800 bucks for tires, especially "z" rat4d ones.

Quick question. I'm confused about what "Tread Wear" is. I understand that the higher the number the longer they'll last. But say for instance tread wear being 420. What does that mean?

The treadwear grade describes how long the tire manufacturer expects the tire to last. A Course Monitoring Tire (the standard tire that a test tire will be compared to) has a rating of "100". If a manufacturer assigns a treadwear rating of 200 to a new tire, they are indicating that they expect the new tire to have a useful lifespan that is 200% of the life of a Course Monitoring Tire.

TreadWear Grade

Below 200=15% of Tires

201 - 300=25% of Tires

301 - 400=32% of Tires

401 - 500=20% of Tires

501 - 600=6% of Tires

above 600=2% of Tires

The stock 32s have a 190 rating. I would'nt put Yoko's down though. Try some more Yoko's before you make your mind up on them.

I'm coming up on 13k miles and my tires still have plenty of tread (the stock Yoko's). I even TRIED to spin the tires from a stop the other day and I had to try a bunch of times because the tires kept grabbing rather than breaking traction.
you TRIED? I can do it on the 1st try. U auto or manual? If you feather it jus right and DONT dump the clutch. If you find the sweet spot by feathering it you can spin em all the way through 2nd.
