I know this is somehing a lot of others might wanna know, so i'll go ahead and ask cause i have no clue myself. I wanna lower my car....is it recommended to buy the shocks along with the springs?

Or put it this way (if i wanna lower the car):
do i need:

1) Just springs is fine
2) springs/ shocks
3) springs/ sway bar
4) springs/ shocks/ sway bar

this comes down to how much you want to spend as well.

dont know but the guy at my dealer told me if i went with the trd shocks i would have more of a stiffer ride than with the oem shocks, they dropped their demo tc and went with the oem shocks because they wanted to keep the ride as smooth as possibly in order to not push away potential buyers...so im going with stocks for now with the trd springs

 

Your dealer, is a liar

The ride is stiff because of the springs, not the shocks

The springs effect how the car reacts the second you hit a bump or turn

The shocks effect the rebound/reaction to the initial movement

The TRD shocks stop the bouncing action that comes with springs and stock shocks, and the bounce will increase as your stock shocks get old and worn out

If you can not afford the shocks you should still get the springs right away- they are the most important thing evar

If you can afford them both now just get them both- they are made for each other

 

thats not completely true... springs do make the ride stiffer and the shocks do absorb the bumps from the road... but if they dont make stiffer shocks, then why even bother with coilovers that you can adjust the damping on? they have adjustable stiffness becuase on the track the road is smoother then normal roads so you can adjust the shocks to be as stiff as possible so your shocks dont rebound as much. for example if you went with KYB shocks... vs. Bilstien sports... the Bilstien sports will give you better handling, but the ride will be super stiff, and thats what Bilstien sports are known for, being natoriously stiff.

but for the topic on hand... the TRD springs are made to work with the OEM shocks becuase the springs rates on the springs aren't dramatically different from stock. if you want better handling go with the sway bar and set it on race... i have both the springs and the rear sway bar (set on race) and the ride is still good

 

I would not-

If I spent hours every week on the track trying to tune my supsension I would get them.

I do not go to the track

I want the best suspension I can get without alot of time invested

Most people with coilovers have worse handling characteristics than a normal spring/shock setup becaue they do not know how to adjust it properly

I do not know how to adjust a c/o properly, and can not weigh each corner of my car to make adjustment , so I have "normal" springs and shocks

 

well, it is just a 1.5" inch drop, so would that really make the ride that much bouncier and tougher on the oem shock than with stock springs? i definately don't want my ride to get bouncy from hitting little bumps, especially on the freeway.

do you think that the oem shocks could last with the TRD springs without ever having to get new shocks? cause those TRD shocks are kinda expensive...

you "blow" shocks from the shock "bottoming out" and the piston inside the shock slamming against the head of the shock because the spring is not long enough/stiff enough to handle the movement. I would seriously suggest getting better shocks when you get better springs, I don't think you would "blow" your shocks from changing the springs, but it would definately be bouncy, and bouncier because there is an inch and a half of less spring to reduce the movement, and then you have a stiffer spring rebounding it from there.... and I'd be afraid if you hit a pothole.

Shocks are a wear and tear part, but you'll only really have to change them twice within the life of the car, maybe every 50,000 miles - I'm sure it would be much shorter if you kept the stock shocks with lower springs.

If it were me and I couldn't afford the shocks, I'd go with just the springs and get the shocks if you need to later, or if you do blow a shock, although I'd be afraid what'd happen to your suspension if you did. Just order the shock, spring and rear sway bar combo - now - TRD lowered the price then re-raised it on Nov. 10th, most online retailers still sell the set for $480 - www.mcgeorgeparts.com - www.trdsparks.com - That's $45 less than dealers ask for the SHOCKS ALONE AT MSRP!!!!!
