Default Drum like noise when car's off?

Hello All, I tried searching to see if any of this sort of problem exists but found nothing. Anyhow. Last night when I parked my car in my garage I turned the ignition off and as I was about to exit my car, I heard this slight noise that sounded like a click or like a drum. It's not too obvious and is very soft but it happened for about a minute or so. I couldn't quite point out where it came from. My car was at a complete rest, parked indoors, key out of ignition, radio off, and I sat absolutely still while trying to locate the source of the noise.

Has anyone ever experienced this? It doesn't sound like it's coming from the engine. It has something to do with the car being hot and cooling off I guess. Since it stopped after a minute or so.

Hmmmm....

Yeah, it's probably exhaust components cooling and contracting. If the ticking slows over that one minute, that's gotta be it. My M3's exhaust ticks pretty loudly when shut down.

Thanks for the quick reply! That was my first impression and what I hope the noise is. However, the more I listened to it during that minute of clicking, the less it sounded like a exhaust click and cool down. The ticking sound is quite different but perhaps it's slightly different from car to car. I hope it's the reason. It's probably nothing serious but I just wanted to see if I can find out what it is exactly.

Possibly the cooling fan kicking off?

it is the catalytic converter cooling down. . most of my cars have done that. if you get an aftermarket hi-flow cat then it wont click/ping/pop whatever the noise is as much.

We named my wife's Camry Ping when she had it because of the racket from the exhaust as it cooled off.
