Default Engine swap 08 xB 2AZ-FE into 05 tC

This will be my first post on here, I was on cobaltss.net when I had my Cobalt. I did tons of work on my Cobalt, and learned a lot about the 2.2 Ecotec engine... it's about 2 am I have been researching all day and all night about the tC. basically I have a 05 Scion tC that I bought used. some of you might know the car, its a 05 tC with charcoal grey paint and black wheels with red stripe. anyways, the engine finally took its last breath at about 78,000 miles. i just bought a brand new 08 xB engine, tranny, everything. even the ECU. less than 500 miles on it.

questions that arise:

Will I be able to use the updated MAF in the 08 engine with my 05 ECU?
Will I have to swap my ECU for the 08 ECU?
Will the 08 ECU have any problems with my 05 car?

I'll be installing the TRD Supercharger on this new engine once it is broken in. I will be upgrading spark plugs to NGK, getting stiffer motor mounts, removing the balance shafts while the oil pan is being swapped (tapping the hole and plugging it with red Loctite and a bolt), upgrade to synthetic Mobil 1 5w30 motor and Royal Purple 75w90 gear oil (after 1000 miles). i will be also fabricating a new intake for the supercharger. i wanted to hear everyones input/questions/answers/comments on this. Thanks. I look forward to learning a lot about the tC.

Oh and I'll also be adding a oil press. gauge and boost gauge (preferably matching)

Future thoughts:

CF Hood
methanol in windshield washer reservoir
E-manage
14 psi?

Thanks in advance for your interest. good night!

nicee!! i wonder where that car went. for the engine they are the same as the tC's. i have no clue about the maf sensor since the 05-06 are completely different. and the newer engines compared to the 05-06 is that it has like 1hp more. as for your SC its not gonna work with the new engine. but hit me up if your located around GG or anywhere in OC. i miss that car!

your using the same SC that jon had correct? 05-06 SC are different and wont fit on a 07-08 engine, if you look it up the SC's come in 2 different types. iono what the difference is but you someone that is SC'ed here can answer that. i'm turbo'd so i wouldnt know

hmm why didnt you just get an tC engine..i know there is a difference between the 2gen xB engine and the tC engine. I just cant remember what exactly. Plus you might not want to travel towards the s/c area because many people have had trouble with em. I suggest you just by a s1 or TEA dezod turbo kit. Cost around the same as a TRD supercharger. But my guess is that you already bought the xb engine and s/c..so there goes my thought

damn lol

ill try it anyways

dammit i knew this wouldnt work

thanks for the info, yeah the car sits here, wont start, in bakersfield. i have alot of plans for it.

since ive got it, i already installed:

all new audio
foglights
tinted 3rd bake light

and got tons more to do.

ive always thought about a turbo to compliment my sc.. haha wonder if the stock internals can handle that much boost

well i havent had any problems at all with the sc, from what jon told me,the car has been sc'd now for about 40000 miles so thats pretty good in my book. yeah i already have the 05 sc kit and buying the engine soon, havent yet. but got a killer deal on it.

well hope you get all the info you need. Research is key before investing in a engine..especially if that engine isnt compatible with the trd s/c

ok i read a lot of threads about differences between the 05-06 kits and 07-08 kits

here is why i think this is bull____ and the reasons why i think i can use my 05 sc on an 08 xb engine:

1. i saw 2 pics of the belt diagrams, one idler pulley i used on the 07-08 kits and its farther forward than the read idler pulley on the 05 kit, thats why they only used one.

2. they are not going to make significant changes to the kit if they dont have to, so the whole idea about the tune being different... it might only be different because the engines compression ratio is different, but slightly. so i think itll work, not the greatest, but it'll work well.

3. im fabbing up an intake anyway so ill buy a 2007 intake and cut it int pieces.

im PRETTY sure this can be done, not 100% but we'll see. im going to buy the engine and prove it once and for all, if it can or cant be done....

thanks guys for the comments and concerns!

well...truth is, ive never had a boosted car before and didnt know they burned oil.

well this car burned oil....ALOT. FAST. i did an oil change shortly after i bought it, put in almost 5 qts, and about 2000 miles later, the engine blew, and i only drained out about 1 qt out of it, i guess i didnt check it often enough, but i would of thought the oil light would come on???

im getting a fuel press gauge asap.

im thinking i burned up the bearings.....

same thing happened to me, my motor became oil starved, and one of the bearings spun. My light never came on, and there was no warning. I got an oil pressure guage to monitor it.
