Default Noise when shifting into 1st from N at a dead stop.

Ok, so I've searched and I can't seem to find anything. I drive an '04 xB with a manual trans.

When I'm sitting at a dead stop, clutch depressed and in neutral there is a noise when moving into 1st gear. The noise is a screech (imagine nails on a chalk board) when I'm moving the shifter. If I stop moving the shifter, the noise stops. It is not audible when the windows are up. In fact, it's barely audible with the windows down, unless I'm next to a building (I really hear it when leaving a drive thru, for example).

I'm thinking that it's something simple, something needs greased, etc. but I haven't had the chance to investigate it. I don't know when the problem started, but I noticed it a while ago now.

I was wondering if anyone had any input on this. Has anyone encountered/fixed this issue before? Could it possibly be that (forgive me for butchering this) the levers that control the shift forks need greasing? Any information is greatly appreciated.
