Default anyone know how to tranny swap?

my parents got me the car and i hate driving a ____ing automatic. i would just trade it, but my parents owe a lot of money on it still and it wont be paid off for a few more years. so, i believe my only option is a transmission swap. i dont mind paying the price(if it is in reason) but i was wondering if theres anyone out there that really knows what their doing and can do it yourselfs.

im considering driving a reasonable distance and paying someone their offered price if i can find a good deal.

come on, their has to be someone out there that LOVES working on cars and wants to make a few extra $$$

just testing waters, lets see what your opinions are

I think your best be is to go to a shop this isnt something that will be done in just a day or 2. you first need to finda all the parts necessary then you can go from there, If you havent checked this thread out look through it.

question to ask first is do you know how to remove and replace a tranny.........second you will need a replacement entire tranny, flywheel, clutch, all the cables, wire harness,ECU,clutch pedal assy, shift assy, man the list goes on and on......

if you can find a junked car that has been totalled in the back end.......with all the working guts up front, and get the yard to sell it to you dirt cheap then it is worth it........honestly just drive the car your parents got you and enjoy that they did something so nice........

kid...your parents bought a car for you, and they are paying it off. instead of finding a surefire way to void the warranty (if it does have a warranty) destroy its value, and possibly make the car useless or unreliable, just keep the car, maintain the car, and when you have the money, buy whatever car you want and do whatever you want to it.

otherwise you may end up spending all your money, messing something up, or having a bad install, or a bad tranny from a junkyard, screw the car up, making it a giant lawn ornament that your parents are still paying off.

Go for it man, (if your parents somehow approve.)

I'm in the same position you are, but a tranny swap sure wouldn't be my first project, if I ever did do that it would be after my parents have paid it off and the warranty is expired, but by then I could be buying a 370z so i'm not sure whats going to happen haha.

I dont really think it matters how you got the car, just how much you love it.

People complain about this too much, but enless someone is complaining that the car their parents bought them was complete ____ and worthless and the dumbest thing ever then I don't see a problem with parents buying their kid's their first car, sorry some of us don't have jobs to pay for all of it.

Parents have always wanted their children to have better then they did so its no surprise most buy their kids a car.

I personally love the scion tC my parents bought me, its why im on this forum, its why I've done a lot of research on it, because I love it. I don't think it really matters how someone got their car, it's more about their attitude towards it.

(This isn't a personal attack in any way, just telling my opinion, all over the site I've seen that exact thing come out, and some people deserve it, the one's who wana spend $200 on a turbo on the car their parents just got so they can go vroom vroom, and they haven't done any research to figure it out on their own, people assume just because their parents bought it that means that person doesn't actually know ____ about it or doesn't care about doing research.)

im just performed a tranny swap and it took me 2 months just to get trans , act clucth, ecm harness, ecm , clutch master and flywheel , total without act clutch 600 clutch 400. not unless your willing to spend hours and hours looking around for good deal like i did , its not worth it, o and im a toyota tech so labor was just my time , 4hours...
but if you want just buy a valve body , sharper shifts and stronger... i got one actually its installed in my auto trans

well Im in the same shoes as this kid. I just bought most of my stuff bought it from the guy for $350. My auto trans is starting to go and after looking around I think the 5-speed is a cheeper option for me.
The auto trans to rebuild was gonna cost me $2600 to rebuild and that was me taking it out and putting it back in. I think by doing the 5-speed it would save me money and ill also get more power

Whats the HP/torque limits for the tranny? Get a transmission cooler and see if you can get a lighter toqrue distributor. This is a common thing for the xA/xB people and they run turbo's (170hp) and they have 210k miles on their cars...You would think the TC tranny is stronger?!

Instead of spending money (lots of it) on a stick shift manual tans, get a supercharger, a tranny cooler, get better tranny oil and see if that helps. Now if thats not good enough, then maybe you should just trade cars at the dealership?

Hi..I want to trade in my more expensive auto trans TC for a manual tans TC with similar mileage. (The salesman will be extactic considering the fact that manual is cheaper than auto) Acording to logic they should jump on that offer.

in good regards,

Regis

Trans is limited to about 250 WHP (dyno's vary) I did a tranny cooler, synthetic tranny fluid,..... and ps the S/C are garbage

Overall unless built the TC trans with a turbo will go and I rarely ever hit boost.

Lol what a great scam. Here we will give you a S/C that will cover your warranty with auto or manual trans! Uhh...my auto just pooped on me after 30k. Are you always in boost? Yea so? Sorry not covered. Damn lol

Rockville huh? Any meets tonight? (sorry I know...off topic lol)

to get to 250 with a S/C would be pretty damn hard in a auto.

A few of us are going to see transformers tonight at 8 regal rockville :D .... besides that nothing listed so far.
