Default Stick with MT-90 or try Mobil 1 gear oil?

I'm currently using Redline mt-90 (20k miles on the fluid) and the gears are just not going in as smooth any more. It use to be it would be ok once it warmed up but now even at full operating temperature, the tranny still doesn't go in to gear as easily as it did.

I read some where that the stock factory fluid and mt-90 don't mix well, maybe that's why it's acting the way it is? Anyone think dumping the existing mt-90 and using fresh mt-90 would help solve this problem?

The other idea I had was trying the Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil to see if the problem goes away. Anyone hear tried it? It's fairly cheap and available at the local auto parts store which is a plus, but I couldn't find any threads about this stuff when I searched. Thanks everyone in advance

watching..but i say keep mt-90. If the stock fluid and Mt-90 didnt flow well together, how do you think mt-90 and mobil will mix? I dont think it would be any better

Well they are both synthetic so I'd think they'd be ok (is the toyota stuff synthetic too?). I'd figure "flushing" out the fluid for the second time should get any remaining toyota stock fluid that is still in the tranny that didn't make it out from the very first fluid change I did with the mt-90.

My first thought was to just go ahead and use mt-90 again, but as of today it's gotten so bad that I don't even wanna drive the thing. But I also don't want to waste $30 on the the Mobil 1 gear oil if it doesn't work well with our tranny.

Well I posted this same thread at bobistheoilguy.com and I was advised not to use the M1 75W90. It`s not made for synchronized manual trannies.

So I'm going to try a mixture of Redline mt-90 and Redline mtl. I've heard also in the past that this combo works really well.

Amsoil makes a 75W-90 GL-4, just what we need. I'm currently using it and it is God sent, smooth as butta and no grinding. Best of all it is cheaper than most overpriced "JDM" stuff lol

Motul Gear 300 is what I use. I love the stuff. Smooth shifting no matter what the temp.

Yet another tc having tranny problems with Redline . . . putting more of the same stuff in there will not fix the problem. I seem to remember that the syncros were made form an alloy that was particular about what oil was used with them.

I'm mixing it because after doing some research this combination works better than straight mt-90 according to others who have done this.

I don't have a tC . The shifting issues with the mt-90 just started as of last week after almost 2 years of use and 20k miles. I'll give it another shot and let it fully drain this time to make sure no factory fluid is still left in the tranny to rule out the possibility of that being the issue.

So you called and this is what they told you to use? I've been running Amsoil motor oil and my motor and SC are loving it, I was wondering about the rest of their products....

OOPS! Sorry AAG there were so may tc owners chiming in I thought you had a tc. Well then I can recommend Synlube since I have had it in my 06xB for 25k miles and it shifts with a little clunk with one finger and even goes into first gear at 15mph pretty easy. I think they still use the same metal in our syncros and there was an issue with anti corrosion additives that may be lacking.

well i had redline also at first it was great for about 3000 miles then after that i got grinding the gears wouldnt go into right escpically reverse it grinded no matter how easy i put it into it..then i switched to eneos felt a difference right away no problems since switching going over 6k miles and going.....i know many people with tc's are experience problems as far as grinding with the redline its almost like the gears are not being lubicated but i had my experience and i know redline wasnt for me eneos worked the best for me i havent tried others yet..

Why does it say it is formulated for just Chrysler and gm cars?
