Default How often can you shift smoothly?

you make a smooth shift,it might seem like a dumb question, but i noticed like sometimes i get the car to shift smooth other times i dont, its almost like a 50/50 shot kinda deal, like if im in a hurry and shift fast...i been driving stick for a few years, but the tc sometimes doesnt shift smooth all the time

and i thought i was the only suck at driving the stick,

I couldn't get tc to shift smooth 1/3 of the time. especially 1st to 2nd.
3to4th and 4to 5th usually pretty smooth.

1st to 2nd, i rarely ever shift smoothly. 2nd to 3rd, i shift usually around 3k. same with the rest. the higher the gears, the smoother the shift. i just dont know why the tC is so retarded from 1st to 2nd

Add me to the list, I do think having the polyurethane front motor mount bushing has helped smooth the shifts out though, also have the B&M short throw shifter installed.

You have to shift slower. Usually a smooth shift results from being almost lazy in pushing the clutch and slowly shifting the gear into its spot then releasing the clutch. Of course, this is for slower driving, not a lead foot.
The true test of a smooth shift is watching the head of a passenger swaying.

sometimes get lazy and dont push the clutch in all the way,or dont go into gear quick enough with the timing of the clutch and get the bouncing feeling,in between shifts...some days i shift good other days, when it raining out,and my foot is slippery,i dont shift as good...but going from 2nd to 3rd is like a 50/50 shot since the h is very close togther,i sometimes dont go in smooth....

Haha yeah, I catch them out the corner of my eye, don't want to be too obvious and stare. I do my shifts at around 3000 RPM mostly. It's all on the push/release of the clutch pedal, but when you rarely have passengers in the car, you get used to the not exactly smooth shifts.

ive been in few of my buddies cars which they cant drive stick to well,i just tell them, just relax and act like im not here,

i dont drive perfect myself, most of the time i do shift smoothly, cause i fix the delay in the clutch which i dont have to push as far down to change gears, and i have a b&m short shift, which makes the gears right there, there are days when im lazy and dont feel like driving,is when i drive roguh

I noticed that I usually have trouble making consistent smooth shifts once the clutch gets pretty worn. On a fresh clutch it is easier to gauge the engagement point IMO.

About half of the time my shifting is fairly smooth... After the car has been on and driven for 10 minutes, or so.
Immediately after a cold start, none of my shifts are any good.

I think the other problem is the crappy clutch pedal in these things! The stock clutch on mine is going though so that dont help. But I swear the engagement point changes day to day on this car! I drive stick pretty good and I swear the car wants to try and stall sometimes with the pedal being down almost to the floor!

i hated when i had to push the clutch to the floor for a proper shift, but then i put on super sliders,on the clutch stop and on the metal piece that engages the switch, now i just have to go half way, makes it alot easier..took awhile to get use too....but so much easier....

then it takes me about 15 mins to get comfty in the car after its all warmed up hehehe

Argh if I don't find a comfortable position to sit ..my shifts are horrible. I noticed, though, when I allow the car to fully warm up ..even a couple minutes pass the middle mark my shifts are smoother. I'm no mech so I cant explain it lol.

+1 on the engagement point. This car is so weird. Makes me feel like I cant drive for nothing!

Had my tC since '06 and I'm pretty much glassy-smooth on the shifting nowadays. Only time I ever mess up really is when I have a passenger who has never ridden with me. In which case I get a little nervous about it and that when I mess up any if at all.
