where to mount satellite tuner
So I rented a car for a week's vacation earlier this month that had SiriusXM. It was my first experience with satellite radio, and now I gotta have it (kinda like the first time you sat in heated seats, used cruise control, keyless entry etc....). I'm thinking of mounting the tuner and adapter on the firewall under the dash, since I'll be removing it again soon to silence some new rattles (lousy defrost vents....)
I read the instructions online for the setup I'm considering, and there were precautions about mounting the tuner in a location where it got adequate ventilation. There was also a max operating temp of 40C (which is 103F) listed in the manual. I know it probably gets hotter than that under the dash especially in the summer next to the firewall. I'm also pretty sure the unit will continue to function hotter than that but they probably didn't test it any hotter in development. For those of you that have satellite tuners, any under the dash? Any overheating issues with the little black box(es)? Any other mounting suggestions? I can't do under the passenger seat b/c I already have a small sub under there. Thanks!
