Default free dealer oil decent?

i never really thought about this until recently. about to hit 60k miles. im starting to think a little more into my maintenance.

anyway i have free oil changes for life from my local dealer, so naturally i just get it there. my question is if anyone knows if they are cheating me and putting conventional vs synthetic. the intervals are 5k miles, so i assumed synthetic, but i know im naive with such things. if anyone knows, please share, if not, guess ill find out next change. thx

more then likely conventional......synthetic is more expensive and free oil changes usually dont result in synthetic

All Scion dealers back in the day included 3 free oil changes/ when you did a purchase. That was for only OEM non synthetic oil+ filter.

This option gives them a good reason to get you in to bang$$$ you for Addtional service that they may offer or see that you need attention to while the car is there. Thus, making more money$$$ from you on parts and service Vs you getting it done cheaper$ at a local auto repair shop.

you could check old invoices to tell BUT in your case the oil you get is conventional and not synthetic like 2010 and up xd's.

FYI: our bulk oil comes from MOBIL by way of outside vendor....

^huh well thats nice to know. ive checked the invoices and it just says bulk oil so yea. not sure if all dealers get their hands on MOBIL but that would be a plus. obviously this is fine for the motor else they wouldnt be pouring it in every time (i hope...). think it would be worth swapping to a synthetic and paying each time for longevity purposes?

Didn't Toyota recently switch to a synthetic blend for their OEM oil?

FWIW - I took advantage of this when I first got my XD, I had changed the oil myself at a 1000 miles and let them do it at 3000, When time for the next change rolled around, I changed it myself and found my original WIX Filter I used at the 1000 mile change......Never again.

^Them WIX filters must be really good then. Kidding aside, it's because of similar stories and experience that I don't let anyone work on the car except for myself and my dad. It's a rarity to find someone that will treat your car well as much as yourself.
