I don't believe it is an overlay. I believe they are candied(painted). In which case you won't be able to cut it.

Cut the overlay. There is no overlay if it is painted. There is nothing to cut except paint? Im confused.

Painting it is not hard at all. Just tape everything good with painters tape that you don't want paint on and spray away.

just put the whole overlay on, then use an exacto knife to sorta etch it off while its on the tail light. jus do it soft enough not to scratch, but hard enough to get the job done. hope that helps

Yes, you could cut them. They are just a thin film. If you want the red outline along the sides tho, you'll want to order the full tail one and trim that out. I'd suggest using Glad Press and seal wrap to outline how you want it on the tail, then stick that over the overlay and cut it out. Be careful. Let us know how it turns out.

And I hate painting too...

bbsukidesu

the painted tail is mine from a walkthrough that's in the tech section. if you follow the walkthrough (or Max2k's), it should be easy enough without breaking the damn things.

yeah, i hate painting too, but i like the way paint looks over vinyl for tail redouts

here's the link for the tech article...

You could cut the overlay, but it's really easier just to paint it. I tried to install some of those overlays and couldn't swing it, but the painting is actually really easy if you do it from the inside and take your time.

painting is cake. I have never painted anything in my life with any type of spray style paint and my tail lights turned out awesome.
