Don't know the exact price but I can tell you it's gonna cost a ton.

The roof has to be removed from the car, so the car has to be braced first.

From there the amount to be removed has to be taken out, the roof then has to be sectioned, stretched and refit.

Glass also has to be custom cut, custom seals made and then installed.

Lastly, in this car, you have 4 doors with window frames that have to be re-shaped and a hatch that will need to be reworked, new struts picked for it (the stock ones would be to long).

After all of that, you'll also have to pay for paint.

This is going to take many, many, man hours. I'd take a rough guess of over 100. But lets use 100 for a round number.

Most shops charge around $50 an hour for labor. 50*100=5000, so you're looking at $5000 in just labor for the chop. Probably $500-$1000 in materials and then paint.

I'd say you're looking between $8000 and $10,000 pretty easily. And that's if you can find a good shop who can safely do the work. This is one of those things that, if done wrong, the car can never recover from. The unibody will be shot and the car will never be usable again.

I agree. I think that 8-10 thousand is a very reasonable guess. It would be cool though!!

More dough than I'd throw into it. Seriously spending 50% of the cost of the car for a body mod is a little nuts. I like the xB and am looking forward to this time next week when mine should be here but there is no way I'd throw that much dough to this car. Now a '51 merc marauder perhaps but that car has collector value even if chopped. Oh yea if you chop the top forget about resale value. So take about 12K once you figure in resale.

Prices can REALLY vary.... I had a 54 chevy 2 dr hdtp chopped about 15 years ago.... cost around 6G's.... I'm currently having my 56 mercury 2 dr hdtp chopped.... i've got about 5G's into it and I still need to have the windshield glass cut (tough on the east coast) and most of the inner and outer mouldings.....
I can't begin to imagine the "fun" it would be to a four door/hatchback with posts etc.... God Bless the BOXCHOPPERS!!
Threw some pics up of the "CHOPS"
