Anyone have an opinion on the room in the back seat, as well as the ease of access to the rear seats. I do not really want a two door but have just fell in love with the streamlined look of the tC. As of now I have no real need of back seats (read no kids, family, etc.) apart from transporting an occational friend on short trips.
Any input with regard to the subject?
(And I'm still waiting for my hatch up, wide angle shot of the car...)
In alot of the reviews there is a brief mention of a generous amount of rear seat room for the class. The rear seat has a more room then a civic coupe, and about the same amount of room as the Accord coupe. That is, atleast as far as the numbers go. I dont know how they will compare when you acctully sit in them.

Im 5'8 too and the tallest in my fam (sad i know), so they wont have problem sittin in the back. Im the only driver in my family and were shoppin for a car. still sellin the idea of getting a coupe/hatch to my parents since they worry bout rear space but now i know theyll fit fine considering headroom but wat bout the hip room?... thnx

same here. im also the tallest in the family. there should be plenty of hip room since it looks quite roomy back there.
daym you serious? im 5'8" but then again, the tC is gonna be mine and ill be in the driver seat hehe.
EXACTLY...
Half of me says: "This isn't the practical car you're looking for. It only has two doors so what are you going to do when you have to carry more people than yourself?"
The other half of me says, "It's my car...F*CK 'EM!"
yea i would say f them too but its not my money lol
They should have kept the car a sedan, or given it some suicide doors in the back. As it is, you've got two supposedly roomy seats stuffed the the back of a two door. That means they're a _____ to get in and out of and you can't use them for cargo unless you like climbing in the car head first to get your stuff.

How many coupes (besides the Saturn Ion & Mazda RX have a half door on the back? Yes, a half door would be nice but it isn't exactly something you should even expect as being near normal in this segment...in fact, I don't even see why someone would expect a coupe to have great access to the back seat. Plus, if Scion kept it a sedan then it would start competing with the Corolla...sure, the tC clashes with the Celica but that car is due for a redesign anyway and isn't the seller that the Corolla is.

But Toyota created a coupe on what is a relatively long wheelbase. They allocated a lot of room to the rear seats. Already it's not a typical design. If they had chopped off a few inches from the wheelbase, and shortened the platform altogether, this wouldn't have even been brought up.
You're probably right about the Corolla. A sedan tC would cannibalize its sales.

Even with extending the wheelbase, that still doesn't mean that putting a half door would be a good thing. It could reduce stiffness in the body, affect handling & cost of manufacturing. Plus, although this is a longer wheelbase, the car is comparable in size to a RSX & Civic...the Ion Coupe is actually ten inches longer then the tC. So, imagine sticking a half door like that coupe has on a car ten inches smaller and you can see why having one of those on the tC isn't recommended.
