Manual Trans Life
Just got my xB Lava last week (#1224). The only one available had a manual transmission. I haven't driven a manual in at least 10 years, but have been pleased with the way my Scion handles so far. My question is this: how long can I expect the clutch to last? Anyone know?

Congrats. Did you get it from Scion of Alexandria? As long as you treat it right it should last awhile. If you beat on it then not very long. Whne my goes I'm just going to get the upgraded clutch.

Talkin' about the standard clutch. Didn't upgrade because I wasn't sure how I was going to handle a manual - my last manual was my 4 speed 1973 Opal. I'll probably upgrade when this one wears out, was just wondering how long that would actually take! Oh, and yes, this was the last Lava that Alexandria Scion had on site. The salesman said that it was the last lava in the area, but who knows whether that's true or not...

I have a 93 accord as well and it is still on the original clutch and I have over 160000 miles and is just starting to feel like it is going to need replacing that includes me running nitrous on it as well. It probably would have lasted longer if I didn't run the nitrous on it. I think my xB should last a while as long as I leave the motor stock.

1994 Toyota hilux p/up - cable clutch (not hydraulic like they are today) lasted me 135,000 miles. The only reason I had it replaced was that the transmission developed a small leak and when it was being re-sealed, my buddy called me to say that he could replace the clutch with a new one, since the original was showing "some wear."
To be sure, I ground the gears a couple of times; usually 1st into 2nd - too quick off the clutch, not quick enough with shifting - usually daydreaming about my then fiance (now my wife).
I'm guessing hydraulic clutches should last a bit longer, no?

kwicslvr - Yeah, I noticed that the folks at Alexandria Scion were less than enthusiastic about the Scion brand. My salesperson even said that more than 50% of the folks coming in were only there to look at the 'strange' cars or were too young to purchase without parental assistance. He did say that a large number of those actually buying were outside of the target demographic though - very interesting!
I have 61k on my modded Acura Integra Type-R and have done several auto x events as well as drag racing and hill climb events and I still have the stock clutch in it, stock brakes also. Although the new owner picks it up Monday so who nows how long it will last him. Not sure of his driving style.

Clutches generally last for quite a few years at least. I had a 96 RS Integra which happened to be my first car as well and was quite wobbly with the clutch when I first bought it. Anyhow, I recently sold it about a month ago to purchase my XB and it still had the original clutch. It's been about 8 years. I did abuse the clutch alot but that was only when I'm up against someone at a light or stop sign. But it did occur quite frequently. Other than that, I never drove it hard. Only when I needed to. When I sold it the car had a bit over 115,000 miles on it and the clutch was still grabbing strong.
My dad has a Toyota Tacoma and his clutch finally went out on him after about 200,000 miles or more. Not exactly sure.

Just got back from Hawaii and my brothers xb's clutch is toast he made the unfortunate mistake of letting his g/f drive it. and she claims she knows how to drive a manual trans car but had the clutch in her car replaced twice In two years. My guess is she rest's her foot on the clutch and ease's the clutch out while gunning the air peddle.Sad part is the car only has 10,000 miles on it.My guess is there is'nt a way to get it replaced under warranty.

I hear that replacing a clutch on a FWD car is very expensive. How much is "very expensive?" I know it varies, but can anybody give a range? I plan to beat every ounce of life out of that clutch, so I'd like to put a stick not on the window or something to remind myself
