So my install of my Panasonic CQ-VD6503U is having a hangup on the TV tuner part. I have a universal TV tuner, Eiger brand. When I hooked everything up, stereo, iPod, and DVD all worked fine. When I attached the TV tuner it blew the accessory fuse twice. I have it going via RCA cables to the aux input of the headunit. Power is tapped from the cigarette lighter wires.
After looking online, I found out that the white wire is ground and the black wire is power to the cigarette lighter. D'oh! Switched the wires around, and no blown fuse for accessory. However, the inline fuse going to the TV tuner now blows every time I try to turn it on. All the wiring connections appear solid, no exposed wires. Any ideas?
Thanks,
KJ

take the tv tuner and power it up from an external source like a 12v batt. or anothe car if it still blows the inline fuse u may have damaged the unit hooking it up backwards if it does not fail check your wireing again make sure you have a solid ground.
on another note the cig. lighter may not be the best place to hook up power thay tend to add noise to the system. try to get power and ground for all your componentsi n the A/V system from one source this will cut down on the chance of a ground loop.
If you have the tools and know how you can open it up and replace the protection diode "Should be the first device in series with the incomming power wires.
If it worked the diode did its job as long as you didnt replace the fuse and still had it hooked up backwards,You only get one shot if you hook it up backwards twice it usually is toast.
Good luck and hope this makes sense,Scott

Thanks, I'll take another look. I only hooked it up once backwards; once the fuse blew, I found a roundabout discussion that talked of the wiring of the lighter. Still, I don't know why it continues to blow fuses when it's wired correctly?

After you hooked it up backwards it shorts out or blows it open,The protection diode
most likely is shorted causing the fuse to blow.
Before you replace the diode cut it out of the circuit if you can and make sure it is hooked up corectly and see if it works.
If it does you can replace the diode to be on the safe side if not and it works you should be good unless you cross it up again.
