My brand new '05 polar white xB came in this week, so I went to look at it today. I noticed that it didnt have the CD player in it, there was just a big hole where it should have been. Sales guy said they all come like this and they install the CD player at the dealership. Is this really true, or is something up???

this is really true .. they all come with a stock single disk free .. but say you want a 6 disk ... they'd have to remove that and put in the 6 disk ... the dealership doesn't get the installation cost back from corperate because they already paid someone to install the standard unit. So if port sends it to the dealer without the head unit in the car and the dealership installs the radio the dealership gets a credit from corp.

You have to understand that sales and service, although in the same building.. are two different entities.the service department charges the sales department for work done. This is why you car came without a radio.

 

possibly they install a lot of stuff like that... in the 80s the dealerships even install a/c and stuff like that...

 

Yeah they install it at the dealer. There's a card that goes in there for the floor models that says something to the effect of "customization starts here" or something. It's goofy.

i got an 05 as well, i guess by the time i got to the dealer, they had already installed the standard single-disc.... No worries though, i don't think there is anyting sheisty about it...

Yeah, I saw that little customization card inside the hole, I shouldve put 2 & 2 together, but oh well. Im just soo excited that my xB is finally here!!! Tuesday is the day...and on my birthday, no less. How great is that! :D

 

Yeah, it's true. My car was so fresh they just put it in when I picked it out at the dealership, It didn't have the rear Lip, and wheel covers either, nor was the holes drilled in the bumper.


BTW: My bB was born (manufactured) on my 19th birthday!

 

I know that for my RS1, they installed the radio at port, along with all the other goodies.

 

Yeah~ All the stuff in the RS package was done @ port except the seats and the numbered badge.

 

The cars come without stereo installed, although a lot of dealers will install a stereo before putting it on the lot. If you decide you want a 6-disc it only takes a few minutes to swap it in.

Cars arrive without stereos and without the skirt lips installed. I guess that they don't want to risk shipping damage to the lips. This may be why there were complaints early on about misaligned lips.

It might be a good idea to figure out how to remove the lips in case the car has to be towed.

As a dealer we have the choice to bring the radio in the car from port or not. If i have a pre-sold order I always bring it in with the radio, which ever one my customer wants. The hubs are installed during Pre-delivery Inspection(PDI) along with the rear bumper wich is not put on so they can back it off the truck, other wise it will be ripped off because of the ramp.
