I just got my xB about a week and a half ago and my first two fill ups yielded a 21 mpg average!! What gives? I bought the vehicle to save gas as my V8 Tundra was killing me. Don't get me wrong, this is still double my Tundra's mpg, but nowhere near the 28-30 I expected, nevermind the claimed 33/37. I do alot of LA traffic driving, but always shift around 3k rpm and cruise at ~70 on the freeway when it's clear. Any ideas on what I can do to improve this? Thanks!!
Me too. I got 31 my first tank, and it gone up from there. Me thinks either it was bad math or you have some problems that the dealer needs to look at..
I've only filled up my car a few times so far. While using my xB to deliver newspapers at night and using AC during the day, I've gotten 32/30/30 mpg. I have a gas receipt from today in my xB right now and I could figure out another figure... going out to look... 28.5.
227 miles, 10.9 gallons to fill up...that = ~20.9 mpg. I have 18's but I bought mine used...it's got 7500 miles on it already! I'm frustrated to say the least. I use super vs. regular, but I don't think that wuld make a difference.
Are you calculating 10.9 gallons every fill-up, or are you looking at your gas receipt to see how much you are actually putting in the tank? I usually put 9-10 gallons in. I've never put 10.9 gallons in, because that would mean I ran out of gas. Just a thought.

It *could* be driving style (not necessarily high speeds, but getting up to whatever speed rapidly will KILL your milage) or it could be something seriously wrong with the car, if your figures are correct.
There's another thread on here with some posted milage charts from actual use. One of 'em's mine, and you can see that my MPG has varied between 22 and 36 depending on how I drove the box.
Yep, if you got 7500 miles and you are getting 22mpg then some thing is wrong. I got 28 for the first 1k miles or so now I have 3k and I am up to 30-31 consitantly. I run 89 octand and try not to drive to hard. ummm try!! Any mods? I also live in So. Cal., but I cruis at 75-80mph which is about 3.6-4 gs on the tack.
best of luck,
