What do you guys feel is the best laser detector to purchase so piggy can't give me a ticket.

 

THe way I understand it, nothiing is going to protect you from a laser. It'll just beep when you are about to get a ticket.

However, the two names I've heard have been the valentine V1 and the escort passport 8500 and x50 (x50 is newer version)

For the lazy not wanting to scroll through links, it has usually been Escort Passport 8500 and the Valentine One unit that gets most attention, for years and years now, each one trying to out-do each other. Concensus is now that the Valentine unit has not kept up lately. Virtually every year a car mag like Car & Driver or Motor Trend do a comparison test. The Bel 980 also has very positive reviews for it.

The summary of that is pretty much this -
