Default $50,000 xA !? !? !?

Have you ever wondered what a $50,000 xA would look like? Well, until yesterday I would have never given it a thought. However, I went to a car show in downtown Albany, NY yesterday... the show was Judgement Day... our regional Scion rep brought 3 Scions (xA, xB, tC) to the show... there was one other xA there... it was entered in the show and I noticed it was registered and there were "Geis" plate frames on it (Geis is a dealership in Peekskill, NY)... anywho... I start looking at the car and I see there are "some" mods to it... lowered with TRD springs/shocks, BIG discs on it front and rear, TRD RH Evolution wheels (didn't check the size), Hotchkis strut tie bar, AEM cold air intake, but the biggest difference was the interior... Sparco seats... headliner replaced with a custom amp (x3) install... amps in the floor in the rear passenger footwells... subs in the back... so I ask the guy how much he has invested in it and he answers by holding up 4 fingers... I say to him "wow, all of that for 4 grand?"... he shakes his head "no"... and says "$40,000"... so, being uncertain as I sometimes am I ask, "including the price of the car?"... NOPE, the car was additional... W T F !!!

Check out the few pics I have here : http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4286255999

Maybe he was just messin with ya or making fun of how the "import" scene overspends on mods. But if it was a dealership, there's probably some loop holes in the tax laws that he can write "$40K" and receive most of the $40k back.

he has a full kit that is painted- 3000( if its a good kit and not a knock off)
the seats are $650+ a piece, and the back is done shouldn't be more than 3000
the doors are done $800+
the system has the be somewhere around $6000+( mine was 3g and I don't have tvs or a fibergla$$ box)
the wheels are $2000 Plus Installation (if its a dealership i'm sure they are including this in the price)
the springs and shocks are $500 Plus Installation
the lights on it are $240 Plus Installation
headliner- 1000
thats not even 16g I know there is stuff from the factory. but that can't amount to more than 7g

I think that guy was either lying to you or pulling your leg, maybe he got ripped off by some place like west coast customs, they overcharge the hell out of people

He's also got those pricey harnesses, what look like big brakes (I doubt all that money went into disc brake simulators). I guarantee that the box was like 99% of the system's cost, as that's one big ol' piece of 'glass. I hope he can keep it clean and scratch free. Those were my main concerns not to build a huge box like that, and you could also have problems with the paint curing. I bet my ish sounds way better anyway. Clean install though, and I'd love the seats and headliner.

I really doubt they spent anywhere near 40k on that car, but they could have easily spent 15-20 - why the hell would anyone spend that kind of money on a show car and not start out with some custom paint??

Atleast now I know not to put red seats in a blue scion

that's easily under 30k...I would say about 8k in upgrades TOPS and that would be paying full retail

Sure,.. you're a dealer right? So you get some parts for cheap, then buy them from your parts department at big mark up.. then have your service dept install them for big mark up and many hours.. it's all dealer money and in the end a little bit of tax write off, I'm sure.

Well was there anything done under the hood? If not then 40k does seem a little steep. I have a catback, car is lowered, and a CAI and it was a little under 2000 dollars Canadian.

company sponsor cars are nice to look at but most of us spend within reason and If I wanted to spend 50K on a car...I question just to go to a few shows would it be worth it...and then again there are peeps who do the show circuit as mantra (dealers/custom shops) which would justified the investment for promotional purposes only..hence the reason for having a customization of that magnitude.

How did he slam it like that on TRD Shocks and Springs? I thought the drop was only like 1 inch.
