finally got my xA ...

....now my question is about wiring color codes...i'm planning to do an alarm install myself since places i've asked around charges too much....anyway 'm not sure but just right under the fusebox is a wiring harness..is this for the factory alarm option ? if so can anybody help me out as far as which wire's which:


1) Blk/orange stripe = ?

2) Red = ?

3)White ( w/ gray spots) = ?

4)Pink/Blk Stripe = ?

5)Brown = ?

6)White/Blk Stripe = ?

7)White = ?

It cant be that much. Pay for it and leave the hassle to someone else. Unless you are very good around a cars electrical system and a multimeter.

There are plenty of shops around that have great deals. Personally I would trust a reputable shop or a mass retail chain. That way if they mess up your car they will hold liability for it.

 

I agree w/ DenZinz, I thought about doing it myself and then looked into the cramped space under the dash where I have the wiring harness, and then other compact parts of the car where I have my backup battery pack installed, it just aint worth it. You'll end up putting a whole day away just doing the wiring. I would say save yourself the uncertainty and time, nothing to say a liability concern for car warranty. Remember if the wiring fries the system, the dealership can claim warranty void since an unlicensed installer put the system in.

 

It isn't that bad...as long as you get Scion security system. Yes, the space is limited, but otherwise it is pretty simple. The only thing is that you have to remove a cable from a connector ant this will consume time if you have never done it. After that, it is just matter of unsnapping and snapping connectors. It took me about 2.5 hours and 30minutes of it was spent to remove that silly cable from the connector. I have a copy of "Installation Manual". If you want, I can share that with you.

 

You definitely don't want to start messing around with your car's electrical system unless you have a clear idea of what you're doing. Luckily, most aftermarket alarm systems nowadays have made the whole installation process a lot simpler by not needing to be tied into as many wires as their predecessors. But you still should have a better grasp of your car's electricals before you get started. If you are intent on attempting the install yourself, I would highly recommend investing the $$ in acquiring the factory manuals that will have detailed schematics of the wiring. Granted, this will end up costing you more money than having the alarm installed by a shop, at least you end up with a set of manuals, and a great deal of knowledge of the car afterwards. Or, if you really just want to learn more about car electricals anyway, but are afraid of experimenting on your own car (since it *is* a new car under a factory warranty and all), you might just want to let a pro install your system, but maybe ask him to help guide you through the install as he goes, so that you can learn from him. That way you can always upgrade things later on, too...

 

I was actually trying to look for a manual for the install and want to see if there is some way to make the alarm chirp or something by adding a seperate siren. Does anyone know if it can do that or is it strictly visual notification for the oe alarm?

 

if you guys are concerned about room to wire, look again.. pull your stock stereo out.. there's enough room back there to mount most anything you'd ever want mounted..

as far as wiring an alarm, i intend on buying my alarm and installing myself.

"frying the electrical system" is utter bull____.. you'll never "fry" anything. you may blow a fuse, but unless you do something stupid like wire your actual battery power directly to some grounding point on the car, nothing will ever "fry".. you're more likely to fry your alarm than your car..

i say do it. you'll learn more about your car that way.
