Default 06 Volkswagen GTI MkV best buy?

The new 06 GTI MkV just came out with the 2.0 turbo engine which is good for 197 hp and 207 lb ft of torque. The car runs about 21k and you can probably get out the door for 23-24k with some pretty nice options. I know this is more than the tC and more than the Si (sold out until may) but the 0-60 time of 6.0 smokes the Si and tC. The best thing about he car is the transmission. My point is that this car's performance would be hard to match and the fit and finish (as good as any Audi) is much higher than that of the tC or Si (which so many seem to love). I bring this up mainly because when the Si came out there was so much discussion of how good the Si was, if that's the case then the GTI will blow you away!

ur dealing with n/a compared 2 f/i.. the new si is a peice of sh*t they still cant make a civics fast stock.. now i like the look of the new civic better than the old and yes they did make it quicker but it only runs a 14.9 .. i got my tc 2 a 15.3 stock.. as for the new gti, it's ugly and audi and vw quality has been questionable for the past 10 or more yrs, the tc with a bolt on turbo kit either zpi or turbonetics ranges out car from 230- over 300 at the wheels not crank horse, for $4200 you can get the stage 1 kit from zpi which will put u at just about a 12 flat in the 1/4 mile and it will still be cheaper and more reliable than the gti any day of the week..... IN MY OPINION BOTH THE SI AND THE GTI SUCK

The MK5 GTI/Jetta/Golf is made in Brazil, while Audi's are made in Germany (Passats and Touregs are made in Germany). VW is notorious for having lower build/design/engineering quality in the first years of a model cycle. If I were to buy a VW, I would wait until the 3rd or 4th year if the model cycle so VW could correct all the kinks.

electrical failure is what I hear is the most common, my friend has a 04 audi S4, it is in the shop more then anything I have seen, and its always electrical..........
even though its under warranty its a hassle, the last issue was there was issues with ecu shutting off while changing gears or somthing to that effect.

thought that the GTI was produced in Germany, unlike the Jetta/Golf.

however, 6.0 sounds *very* suspicious, especially with 200hp and a 3300+ curb weight. most #s I've seen have been mid-high 6s (ie, 6.9sec). Just a note, it seems as though the additional safety features that were required to bring it to the US brought the weight from 2900 (euro version) to over 3300lbs. *sigh*

edit: modernracer.com has it at 6.9 and vs the new Si at 7.2. In the 1/4 mile the GTI shines, but my guess is that it'd get walked in a road course by the Si's nearly 500lb weight difference.

The 6.0 0-60 time comes from a reliable source (http://www.caranddriver.com/article....&page_number=1) and is due the the new transmission (DSG is essentially two manual transmissions in parallel and two clutches. One clutch is connected to the odd gears, and the other to the evens. The two clutches alternate back-and-forth to provide smoother and quicker shifts than a single-clutch manual with electronic controls.) There is a launch feature on the euro model that will come here in 2007 that allows the car to reach a 0-60 time of 6.0 so there is no suspicion. Euro model weighs 3178 lbs and our model weighs 3308 so although heavier it's not the huge difference you are stating.

While you're reading all those magazines you should also pick up Consumer Reports, Edmunds, J.D. Powers $ assoc. and give those a read. 0-60 times are not the only consideration when choosing a car. If so, you are really looking in the wrong place......

resale value is something I dont like about VW's (i used to own 2). 2002 GTI 337 Edition (18" BBS wheels, Recaro seats, body kit, etc) dropped from $24K new to $16-18K used in 3 years. To see a $6K drop in value after 2 years is pretty common among GTI's/GLI's.

i must admit i am thinking about trading my modded up tc to get that sexy ___ dsg tranny on an all black gti.... get this... the audi tt will be relaunching 2008 with the same tranny and engineas the gti, and be $13000 more expensive... go screw audi!

as far as the 21k price range
i believe its the best bang for the buck
from i recall, not very many 4 cyl. N/A can stretch close to 200hp stock
cobalt, ion, gti, all have f/i to be at the 200 mark
the k-series is a remarkable engine overall, gas saving and also a decent performer
i don't understand why any car enthusiast would think the si "suck"
please explain...

the si is a great looking car and i one of the best civics honda has put out but it may reach the 200 hp mark but hp doesn't mean sh*t when the car still has no torque... i have a cold air and a custom cat back and i'm right next to the car from a dig and i've roll away from them at the highway speeds....

yeah, the si has got to have one of the craziest torque to hp differences i have seen. from what i have seen the restrictivness comes from the ecu, but there has to be a reason that honda put the limiter on... maybe stretching 200 ponies out of a 4 banger has its drawbacks?

and the interior of the si is space age stuff... not my cup of tea...

as this thread is on the gti, i have to say the gti, besides looks as compared to my tc, is pretty nice. all you have to do is add a chip, and you hop up to 240hp at the wheels! pretty nice stuff!

Wait for the mazdaspeed 3, which will cost less and blow the doors off the GTI.

2nd. The MS3 is going to be <$20k with some additional potential. It's going to be like a SRT-4 with refinement and decent built quality.

i understand that the k20 motors are torqueless
however, countering it with a 8,000-8,100 redline makes up for it

i've posted this in another part of the forums but i'll go ahead and say it again.
in the tC n/a section, even tC owners will say that they will need to be f/i or internally upgraded to beat an rsx-s. to my understanding the type-s = 06 si
not calling you a liar, of course its possible
but with just an intake and a exhaust its just a little hard to believe

The dealership around here called me yesterday and told me they got 1 mazdaspeed 3 in.. By the time I got home from work and called them back it was sold. He said it sold for $22,400 (it was the base model, not grand touring)

I would of loved to drive it.
