b20
how fast is a b20 engine in a honda civic? my friend keeps telling me he is going to smoke everyone once he gets that but its hard for me to believe that when it only has liek 130hp which is about how much an EX has and im running stock Tc and i can smoke EXs with some bolt ons all day.
it depends.
a b20 in a civic is murder.
its a CRV block. it has potential. and it will most likely with a few mods, or none at all. smoke your little tC
also keep in mind that a Civic is much lighter then a tC.
power to weight ratio. your tC is a lot heavier then a motor swapped civic.

Despite being part of the B-series family, the B20 shouldnt pose as much of a threat as a B18 or a B16. The 2 versions of the B20 engine does not have vtec and has only 126/146 hp. Maybe with the 146hp version he'll be quick since the civics are light but he wont be "fast." But who knows, maybe he'll mod the hell out of it.
here is what he is talking about with a b20.. for those who dont know
he is building a b20vtec for the torque value you gain from the crank ppl.. if your friend (who will most likely do this) does a b20vtec which is the same as an LSvtec concept which is putting a vtec head ( can be from a b16, or b18c1 or c5 aka gsr or ITR or b16b aka CTR head.... he is going to make good power + good TQ.. which is why people make LSvtecs or B20vtecs... they tend to hold alot more power in some aspect as compared to their counter part b series blocks that already come with their vtec head only those blocks are made for lower TQ and higher rpms and more HP top end...
basically your friend is making a frankenstein which if done corectly can easily yeild him 170hp with a matching TQ line which is were honda motors usually faily and why off theline they are slow but once they get into vtec at higher rpms take off..low stroke low TQ
ive been in the honda world for 10yrs.. so i know my b series up and down from my previous built motor..
you will get raped if he does it correctly..LSvtec and b20 vtec with lets say CTR, ITR pistons, should easily get him to thr 180-190+ range..

raced a guy many moons ago
he had a eg hatch with a b20, didn't want to say any other mods
the only mod i had was a intake in my type-s
he beat me by 2 cars
if don't correctly they can be quick
the tq in it doesn't hurt either

B20.
So the B20 (blows x 20) is more capable then the b18 (blows x1
or b16 (blows x 16)?
makes sense.
What about our main man the 2JZ-GTE (2... insane to acronym properly)?
lol..

yup a B20 done right will take the stock tc. My buddy and his shop built a B20 block GSR head and tranny and that thing was quick till month later after it was out of the shop some dumb a$$ 16 year old punks though it be great to jack it and try parting it out only to get caught and messing it up at the same time! but that is another story haha but your friend if does it right will have a good set up! it is all power to weight!

On second thought, I could do without the room, if it was a mid-engine bad boy toy. So, like an old Porsche 914 with this here b20 or that K motor the other dude was talking about, 10 - 12 pounds of boost, and a bottle......
dude you could put a 15 in a del sol. i had a box with three eights that was fabed behind the seats. there is like two storage compartments behind the seats, and i said to hell with that im putting in subs!
