Former VW owners
Wow, all these peeps, and not a single Fox sedan.
'91 Fox sedan 2dr.
Loved it, for two people. The front seats did not tilt forward, It was a 2dr car with 4dr front seats. My dad and I had to rebuild the Shift linkage 2x in 10 months. The first time, I lost 1st-2nd-R. about a mile from my house, including .1 of that in a gated community with a 5mph limit (and the speed bumps to back it up), had to drive back in third. We rebuilt it with some hose. The second time we rebuilt it with real parts. The A/C didn't work and the thing got about 16-18mpg HIGHWAY. (I guess, the ODO was completely F***ed, and the Speedo was not accurate.) But I was going about 100-110 miles on about 7 gallons. In my egg I went 319.1 on 9.0xxgal. The Fox was F'n FUN tho, nothin like a beater to kick around for a while. The whole cooling system died about a week B4 the car did...it took me about 4-6 hours to go the ~20 mi from my dads to my mom's in the last week of here life... She was a good, strong car, and she will be missed...R.I.P. Foxy {S taps <---aol 2.0 was owned by me and my friendsperiod

I just got my xB this past saturday. I traded in my B4 Passat GLX. I spent more money fixing it than I did to buy it. So far...I have not looked back. I love my xB. I have had my eye on them since before they were released in the US.
My wife had a 1994 Jetta GL. It was okay, but it was in the shop a lot for piddly little things. It started to nickel and dime us to death, so we got rid of it. Her dad was a VW mechanic when he first came over from Germany, so she's got a thing for VWs (oh and all of her family lives in Germany, too).
I have owned at least one VW continually from 1980 to the present. I had several Rabbits. including an 83 GTi. Also had a type III fastback and a Beetle. Currently have a mint condition 85 Scirocco.
My old GTi and my current Sciorocco(along with my 69 SAAB)

I own two VWs. A 2002 GTI 1.8T higly modified and a 1980 Rabbit w/ 78,xxx miles. My GTI is for sale now, youll find the thread in this same forum. I've got an itch to do alot with my Rabbit. The ol' school VWs got my attention biggg time.
So.....if you know anyone look for a great GTI, mine is for sale and it's an awesome car!
btw-i still give mad props to Scions. My girlfriend has an Azure Pearl tC. I put a nice set of Hotchkis springs on and she got her windows and taillights tinted. looks amazing.

I have been toying with selling the 'Rocco.......
I had a '96 VW Trek before I bought a tC last year. I LOVED it, the styling of the A3 never looks outdated and the smoked taillights are hot. You don't find many lowered jettas on 17s so it's always nice that people compliment the car. It was loud as hell too (for a 2.slow)...maybe it's because I sawed off the resonator and replaced it with a straight pipe.
I stopped loving it when I had to buy a totally new engine (short block) that costs $3K and the tranny was slipping (after 10 yrs?). I would have gotton either the r32 or GTI, but I didn't want to go through that again. Bought the tC and loving it ever since!!!
I'm trading in my 2001 Beetle for a black xb tomorrow morning. This Beetle has been a real headache. I've had it 3 years. I've had to replace ALL lights once, some more than once. both power windows failed, water pump replaced 4 times, tensioner replaced, catalytic converter failed (expensive!), still has a coolant leak and the interior dash lights work intermittently. Cool design, poor engineering.
I had a 72 Karmann Ghia in High school which rocked.

I traded in my 04 Beetle for my sexy silver box. I hated that car! Within the first 6 months, it was in the shop 7 times for the same thing. Once I started the lemon proceedings, then then decided to order an entire new ingition column from Germany. When I asked them what took so long to decide, they replied that it was too expensive to order it. So I drove a rental car, had tons of heartache for about 6 months because they didn't want to spend the cash.
Needless to say, I traded that in once I wasn't upside down terribly. I LOVE THIS BOX! It makes me smile every morning when I walk into the garage and see a silver box and not a yellow lemon.

I used to have a 2001 VW GTI VR6 (all done up ;) ) Then I got a 2001 BMW M Roadster (main reason i got rid of her). I miss my VW though, I actually prefer it over my TC. It was much faster, and imho i think was made better (german). I mean yea I had a few problems, but nothing major, great warranty...getting all teary eyed thinkin bout the fam i sold it to in CT. lol
I had a 2002 VW Jetta 1.8T with every simgle option. VW also threw in gas doors that falls off, bad ignition coils, MAF sensor that needed to be recalibrated every season or the car would have problem starting, odo display that tells you jibberish once in a while, power windows that falls into the door and doesn't come back up, and cracked suspension bushing. But that's not the fault of VW, as it was all caused by my 18 inch wheels, K&N panel filter, Oettinger body kit, and Remus exhaust according to the dealer. They also told me to stop annoying them or else they'll void my warranty for having a K&N.
I had a 2002 Passat GLS V6, purchased new. I couldn't keep it out of the shop. All 4 rotors needed to be replaced at 500 miles, the engine speed sensor prevented starting at 4 months old, and the electrical system to the LR door failed three times. The last straw was when it started eating oil at 30k miles - at 1000 miles per quart. It set off the low engine oil pressure light when it was 3 quarts low. I think it was burning it through the 5 valves per cylinder, and the dealer wanted to do a bunch of stuff to fix something else so they could keep their mechanics working.
I traded it for my xB at just the right time - gas was only $2/ gallon then. The xB has been a fantastic choice, and the only thing I miss about the Passat is its looks.

98 Jetta Wolfsburg Ed., Black
I sold that when I decided to get my '06 XB, here in the spring of '08.
I like driving the VW, but yes, the electrical system can be buggy (cruise control shorted out). The window motors go out, and the grippers need to be replaced. I had 2 windows drop on me while driving. that sucks. Overall the driving experience was great, sports suspension and handles nicely. But some buggy things were always happening. At 158k I had to get a complete transmission rebuild as well. Really tough to swallow that payment. I also washed the engine once and shorted out the entire starting mechanism. New plugs, ignition coil, and ignition wiring etc... And then the starter just went out. Once it got around 140k that's when a lot of the cost came into the ownership.
Fun car to drive and handled well, but always dealing with some of the "import pricing" for small repairs here and there.
The XB is more fun to drive, much smoother and quieter, and little maintenance concern. what more could you ask for??
