Default GTI get owned!!!

So my friend drives a 2007 SI. Recently we both installed HID's so we decided to switch cars so we could check our own cars in action. Little did we know...a GTI was on out tail. Now because I was driving my friends car, which I have never driven before, I wasn't really sure if he wanted me to run him. All I knew was if I was in his shoes I would have been thinking, "He better burn that _____!" So I decided to stop debating and start shifting! Damn did he get owned!!! Not to mention multiple times. What a great kill. Too bad he was too embarrassed to pull over with us.

Oh I forgot to mention, earlier that day the GTI happened to be at the car wash with me and was running his mouth about how sick his car was. I guess he won't be talking too much now. My buddy was so happy to see me smoke him so I guess I chose right, lol!

aproximately what year was his gti?

anyway...if i was your friend, i would be thinking "you better not do anything stupid in my car cause if you f it up, your a dead man, i don't care if a chevy aveo wants to race you, driving my car is a priviledge that you will never experience again if you abuse her!"

agreed... if its a MKV GTI (which I think is 2006+, the new body style) then he either couldn't drive or he wasnt really racing... now the 2007 Si isnt bad, but felt totally gutless compaired to my S/C tC. I drove one on a closed course and really let loose, but it didnt seem like 200hp. If it was an GTI older than the MKV then those had a turbo but it actually gave it less power or seemed to.... In any words, glad nothing bad happened.

umm the MKV gti has a turbo from the factory too and .2 litres more displacement then the MKIV. It did loose 4 valves though (to prevent the oil sludging issues the 20v head design had

the 1.8 t had 180 hp, the vr6 had 200 hp.

most reviews said that the 1.8t was more responsive while the v6 was kinda doozy.

*shrug* just going off what i remember, in either case my main point is if it was a MKV the driver didnt know what he was doing or wasnt racing and thats why he got beat by a 2007 Si.

wow, I would hate if anyone raced with my car when we were supposed to be checking out HIDs...

imagine if either of you wrecked the others car...

and theres no way an si beats a new gti unless the kid was terrible at driving.. it had to have been an IV

wrong, the 1.8t were 150 in standard trim, 170-180 in 337 and other special edition trim, the vr6 was 176hp and in the wolfsburg edition it had 24v and 201hp, and the mkV gti is a 2.0 turbo, the rabbit is a 2.5 NA which is ***** slow

i got a 2004 gti, 1.8t.
you're right, they're not as quick as a si, or probably even a stock tc. But good lord guys, they're near 3300 pounds.
vw's are a niche car.

Anyone drove in a gti w/leather, heated seats package? Nicer than most luxury cars, nicer than any honda ever(and interior wise, i argue more than any non tl/rl acura). The new 2006+ went away from the luxury interiors of the last 2 gens, ubt still are very nice.

and drive a gti at 120-130mph, and a civic or any honda car at 120-130. you feel safe at that speed in your gti. higher end vw's are niche cars, made to cruise at 100mph+. japanese cars are not.

yes, the electronics quality on german cars are no where near japanese cars, as seeing 2 year old vws with headlights out are an easy sign of this, but vw's are niche cars now.

wow, i thought the gti's were alot more powerful and lighter than that...no wonder i totally pwned that stupid whigger on powder mill road during spring break. i figured he wasn't really trying...

yeah, no one understands except vw owners. I sure didn't. I'd read about gti's, see low hp, low times, high price tag, say wtf, i'd never waste my money on one.

Then I drove one with leather, heated seats, every amenity luxury cars have, but in this small car, and then I drove one at 130mph. You know how japanese cars usually have their suspension "lift up" when you try to go that fast. This seems to lower, and feels very heavy, like big car heavy at high speeds.

they are not rice rockets. they are made for the autobahn, not just tested on it. Seriously, while i'm sure some speed demons will argue "my SI does 120 fine". I ask that same driver to drive a newer 2002+ gti at 120, and tell me which feels safer, and which one you'd rather drive at 100mph+ for say an hour straight.

i love to go 100+ mph, its the police who have a problem with it.

as for a niche car specializing in high speed as you claim. i don't understand, everytime i read reviews about the gti, they are lauded as lightweight peppy backroad stormers. i know they got heavier and more powerful over the years, but i thought that was still their purpose.

oh well, since you don't get alot of opportunities to go 100+ mph on public roads, i'll say the tc and si are better cars than the gti.

gti's USED to be lightweight fun little cars, like early 90s civics, you could get 200hp out of a car that weighed less than 2000 lbs.

Mark 1 (1974–1982) = <1900
Mark 2 (1983-1992) = 2200
Mark 3 (1991–1999) = 2836
Mark 4 (1999–2005) = 3290

crazy, huh? I have an expresslane that cops don't aren't hardly on, and a big downhill run just north of seattle. grabbing 130 for about 15 secs is pretty easy.

while you may say si/tc is better, when you're older and just want a nice car to drive, but still want a smaller/sporty one, look at a leather gti(i say "leather", because vw does this retarded thing with upgrade packages, where you either get a lpain cloth interior and not much more, or you get leather/heated seats/sunroof/audio, etc...all in one package, and you can't just get leather for a say 1000 more, no you have to get the additional $4k package. It does make it easy to shop for gti's though, just see that they have leather and you know 99% of all the factory options they got on it.)

Isn't the MKV like 400lb heavier than the SI with an extra 3 horse? why would the SI get beat so badly?

Civic Si GTI MKV
Engine Displacement 1998 1984
Valve Configuration DOHC DOHC
Horsepower @ rpm 197@7800 200@5100
Torque @ rpm 139@6100 207@1800
Curb Weight (Manual, lbs.) 2877 3100 (223lbs Difference)

Whats not listed (so I cant comment on it) is if the Si has an LSD... the GTI MKV does have one.

So as you can tell from the numbers, the power for the Si comes in at 7800 where as the GTI has it in sooner at 5100 and the torque is available right away for the GTI where as the SI you have to wait till 6100 to get the peak... So thats why I saw that the Si wouldnt be able to win like it did... just proving my point.
